24/05/2022Galán argues in Davos that urgent action and a stable framework for renewable energies are urgently needed The Chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, participated this afternoon in the panel Shaping the Integrated Energy Future, which took place within the framework of the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Galán defended the need for urgent action and a stable framework for renewable energies. A regular at this annual event in the small Swiss town for more than 15 years, the chairman insisted that the energy transition must be accelerated urgently, because "measures that slow down the transition to clean energy will have very significant costs". In countries like Spain they could be equivalent to almost 8% of GDP. Energy transition is the real solution Galán explained that the answer to this energy situation is the transition to an electrified economy with green energies, which means a massive development of renewable energies, greater investment in smart grids, an increase in storage and an acceleration of the development of green hydrogen in energy uses that are difficult to electrify. "The transition will not only reduce external dependence on fossil fuels and energy costs, but will also contribute to improving energy security, as sources will be local and infinite, will have environmental benefits and will contribute to industrial and employment development," he said. For this reason, he persevered that transition is inevitable, but "not yet fast enough. We need to accelerate the change, which requires strong political will". The president recalled that investments in clean energy have long payback periods and investors need strong signals to direct their capital to the most favourable environments. "We have the technology, the support of society and, as companies, we are ready to play our role, investing and committing all our human and technological resources, but we need clarity, rule of law and attractive regulation," he said. In addition, Ignacio Galán pointed out that simpler administrative procedures are needed for clean energy projects , considering them to be projects of public interest. Iberdrola, an example of value generation Galán believes that Iberdrola's track record over the last 20 years confirms that its commitment to the fight against climate change not only benefits the environment but also its shareholders and society in general. In the last 20 years, Iberdrola has grown sixfold in size, becoming the leading company on the Spanish stock exchange, with a capitalisation of close to 70 billion euros, the largest electricity company in Europe and one of the four largest in the world. As a result of this growth, Iberdrola supports 400,000 supplier jobs worldwide, has 40,000 employees and contributes more than 30 billion euros to countries' GDP. READ MORE

23/05/2022Ignacio Galán: "We are committed to maintaining the investment effort to counteract the economic impact of the war in Ukraine" Against a backdrop of heightened economic uncertainty and downwardly revised economic growth prospects for this and the next two years, a new survey of European business leaders conducted for Europe by the Conference Board Measure of CEO Confidence™ for Europe by ERT (European Round Table ) has underlined the urgent need to accelerate the green transition. Despite the worsening outlook for the European economy due to the current crisis, the survey shows that the majority of ERT members are confident that Europe will continue to meet its emissions reduction targets by 2030 and a majority expect both capital investment and job creation in Europe to continue. To do so, the EU must focus on completing the single market, as only a competitive EU can rise to these challenges. According to Ignacio Galán, Chairman of Iberdrola, "European companies are committed to maintaining our investment and job creation efforts to counteract the economic impact of the war in Ukraine". "It is important to continue to act to meet Europe's ambitious climate targets, which will allow us to continue to create jobs while deepening energy autonomy", said Galán. The results of the survey High transport prices, rising raw material and material costs, supply chain bottlenecks and now war on the continent have left an overwhelming majority of European CEOs feeling pessimistic about current economic conditions. The Conference Board Measure of CEO Confidence™ for Europe by ERT stands at 37 points in H1 2022, as compared to 63 in H2 2021. (The measure ranges from 0 to 100. A reading below 50 reflects more negative than positive responses). In addition, another 61% say the outlook will worsen in the next six months. Rising energy costs are one of the main reasons for the current downward revisions of Europe's economic outlook and may have a more lasting impact. Among other significant findings of the latest survey, ERT highlights the following three: Investment and employment intentions remain positive Despite the overall pessimistic outlook, CEOs remain slightly positive about their investment intentions for the next 6 months, and many have plans to accelerate investments that will reduce their dependence on Russian energy. Overall, one third of CEOs expect capital investment in Europe to increase, and another 54% expect it to remain the same. The story is similar when it comes to hiring intentions, with 25% of CEOs expressing optimism about employment prospects in Europe, and 61% expecting no change over the next six months. High energy prices in the years to come do not stop the ambition of the green transition 40% of CEOs surveyed believe that energy prices will only return to pre-pandemic levels from 2024, while 38% predict that they will never return to pre-pandemic levels. In this context, it is striking that two thirds of the CEOs and presidents expect that pressure on energy costs will not slow down the EU's efforts to reach its 55% emissions reduction target by 2030. In addition, 69% of CEOs stated that they will intensify recycling efforts to help address material shortages, and a further 11% responded that they have already taken such actions. Global landscape will change survey results Respondents expect the global business environment to be different in five years' time, with 80% expecting an acceleration of the division of the world into competing economic blocs. The majority of CEOs (66%) expect Russia's war in Ukraine to accelerate the EU's "strategic autonomy" agenda. 55% of CEOs expect the status quo of EU single market integration to be maintained, while another 39% expect integration to accelerate. Sara Murray, international managing director of The Conference Board, added: "The Measure of CEO Confidence survey was also conducted in China and it is interesting to note that there is a consensus among executives in China and in Europe that higher costs are being passed on to consumers. Sixty per cent of CEOs in China told us that this is either underway or has already been done". About the survey The Conference Board Measure of CEO Confidence™ for Europe by ERT surveys CEOs and chairmen of leading European industrial and technology companies that are members of the European Round Table for Industry (ERT). With a 98% response rate, this tenth edition of the bi-annual survey measured ERT members' sentiment on a range of topics, including the economic outlook, inflation and the impact of the war in Ukraine. Since 1976, The Conference Board in the United States has conducted a quarterly survey of CEOs and chairmen. The survey is conducted twice a year in Europe. To download the full survey results, click here . The next survey will be conducted in the fourth quarter. READ MORE

23/05/2022Iberdrola moves forward with its commitment to Poland and begins construction of the Korytnica II wind farm Iberdrola is making progress in the development of its renewable projects in Poland with the start of construction of the 50.5 MW Korytnica II wind farm. This facility will be located in the Mazowieckie region, northeast of Warsaw - next to the Korytnica I wind farm (82.5 MW), already in operation - and will be capable of supplying clean energy to 40,000 Polish households. Korytnica II's output will be sold through a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Norway's Statkraft (also present in the Spanish energy market, with a portfolio of 1.2 GW renewables), backed by a contract for difference (CFD) obtained in the fourth auction held in Poland in June 2021. The entry into operation of this facility, scheduled for the first quarter of 2023, will bring Iberdrola's onshore wind capacity in Poland to 163 MW. The company already operates the Zopowy wind farm (30 MW) in the Opole region and the aforementioned Korytnica I (82.5 MW). Iberdrola is also developing a significant portfolio of offshore wind projects in Poland, including seven projects with a potential capacity of up to 7,300 MW. The company plans to set up a Baltic Sea hub in the country, a renewable hub in the Baltic Sea that will act as an epicentre for offshore and onshore services, as well as providing local content for Iberdrola's projects in the Germany-Poland-Sweden axis. The Baltic has an offshore wind development potential of 93,000 MW, of which 28,000 MW would be located in Polish waters. Green investments to boost economic recovery For two decades, Iberdrola has been leading the energy transition, acting as a driver of green economic recovery, job creation and the transformation of industries. After twenty years driving the energy transition, with investments of 120,000 million euros, Iberdrola is a leader in renewable energies, with an installed capacity of more than 37,000 MW, making its generation fleet one of the cleanest in the energy sector. 19/05/2022Iberdrola to test the world's first ultra-efficient high-pressure electrolyser in the UK Iberdrola, through its subsidiary ScottishPower , is to install a pilot plant in the UK to test a new electrolyser technology that could reduce green hydrogen production costs. The project, called GreeNH3, will be developed together with Proton Ventures - a provider of green engineering solutions - and Supercritical, which has developed this new type of electrolyser. Using heat and pressure, Supercritical's design allows gases to be delivered at over 200 bar pressure without the use of compressors, saving up to 20% energy to produce the same amount of hydrogen. The UK Government today announced its support for this initiative through the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio Low Carbon Hydrogen Supply 2 programme, with grants of up to £6 million. UK Energy Minister Greg Hands said the project "will help drive forward the development of hydrogen as the clean, affordable, home-grown superfuel of the future. The UK is leading the world in hydrogen innovation thanks to exciting efforts like this. The pilot facility to be operated by Iberdrola will test whether the technology can be applied on a large scale for ammonia production. Currently, most of the carbon emissions generated in ammonia production are due to the use of hydrogen from fossil fuels. This new high-pressure electrolyser - powered by renewable energy supplied by the company - will be used in an ammonia module supplied by Proton Ventures, where green hydrogen, at extremely high pressures, will combine with nitrogen from the air to produce ammonia. "Innovative solutions like this are driving the clean fuels revolution, bringing green hydrogen and ammonia to markets that may not have realised there is a greener alternative. We hope to demonstrate that there is a more sustainable and cost-effective way to produce ammonia," explained Barry Carruthers, ScottishPower's Hydrogen Director. This facility will be located at one of the company's green hydrogen sites in the country. Iberdrola is currently promoting the two main green hydrogen projects in the UK. In partnership with Storegga, it will develop a project in Comarty, north of Inverness, which will enable the decarbonisation of distillery heating processes. In the first phase, which will be operational from 2024, it will produce up to 4,000 tonnes/year of green hydrogen, with the potential to expand to a total of 20,000 tonnes/year in the future. The company will install a 3,000 tonne/year green hydrogen plant at its Whitelee wind farm outside Glasgow , which will come on stream in 2023 and be able to supply enough emission-free green hydrogen to power up to 550 round-trip buses a day between Glasgow and Edinburgh. The project is also supported by the UK Government, which has committed £9.4 million to its construction. ScottishPower is also participating in 'Scot2Ger', an international collaboration project to explore future opportunities for exporting green hydrogen, manufactured by electrolysis, from Scotland to Germany. The Iberdrola group - which has just inaugurated Europe's largest green hydrogen plant for industrial use in Puertollano - currently has a portfolio of green hydrogen projects that will require investments of €9 billion by 2030, with the aim of developing 400,000 tonnes/year of green hydrogen. Scottishpower also supports decarbonisation through green hydrogen projects across the British Isles. READ MORE

18/05/2022Iberdrola presents the campaign to support the Spanish Women's National Women's Football Team, "SOMOS LA ROJA. SOMOS EL VERDE" Iberdrola presented this afternoon in Madrid its campaign to support the Spain Women's National Football Team, "SOMOS LA ROJA. SOMOS EL VERDE" (“We are the red. We are the green”), in an event hosted by journalists Lourdes García Campos and Nira Juanco. "SOMOS LA ROJA. SOMOS EL VERDE" was created with the aim of creating a movement of support for the Spanish national team ahead of the European Championship, bringing this competition closer to society, as well as raising the profile of the women's national team as part of the drive for equality that the company has been promoting since 2016. The event was attended by top-level footballers such as Virginia Torrecilla, Laia Aleixandre, Amanda Sampedro, Lola Gallardo, Sheila García, Maitane López and Nahikari García. Also present were Iberdrola's Brand, Advertising, Media and Sponsorship Director, Juan Luis Aguirrezabal, and Rubén Rivera, Marketing Director of the Royal Spanish Football Federation. "SOMOS LA ROJA. SOMOS EL VERDE" is an initiative promoted by Iberdrola, main sponsor of the Spanish Women's National Women's Football Team, to send our players the support and energy of the fans ahead of the final phase of the European Championship, which will be played next July in England. Despite the difficulty of the group stage - Finland, Germany and Denmark - all the players present at the event agreed that "this is Spain's moment", and that the growth and maturity shown in recent years "will help the team to present its credentials and fight for the continental title". A unanimous response that was also repeated when it came to identifying those responsible for this gradual growth and which, according to the protagonists, responds to a "combination of very positive circumstances: the progression of the Primera Iberdrola, the role of the clubs and the support of Iberdrola". They also took the opportunity to point out that they no longer need to look for references in men's football as they have "their own references, such as the recent winner of the Ballon D’Or and Iberdrola ambassador, Alexia Putellas, something that is repeated, fortunately, in all positions and posts". Trip to England for a Spain match The "WE ARE THE RED. WE ARE THE GREEN" campaign is based around a 3x3 football tournament for girls and boys aged between 9 and 13 years old, whose champion will receive the prize of a trip to England, accompanied by an adult, to watch a match of the Spanish national team in the first phase. This will be repeated in the three tournaments planned: Malaga, Madrid and Bilbao, on the second, third and fourth weekends of June, respectively. In this way, the company aims to promote equality from an early age. In all cases, reference sites have been chosen that are easy to access and highly visible to fans. In addition to the tournament, other recreational activities are planned, always motivated by the upcoming competition of the Spanish National Women's Football Team in England. Iberdrola, a pioneer in promoting sport for women Promoting women's sports has become a key lever for Iberdrola and for the promotion of real equality between men and women, one of its core values. In 2016, Iberdrola became the first company to make a firm and global commitment to equality and the empowerment of women through sport. The company currently supports 32 federations: gymnastics, triathlon, rugby, canoeing, badminton, football, handball, volleyball, hockey, table tennis, athletics, karate, boxing, surfing, ice sports, fencing, underwater activities, bowling, winter sports, weightlifting, judo, Olympic wrestling, mountaineering and climbing, swimming, skating, pelota, rowing, squash, taekwondo, tennis, archery and sailing. It also gives its name to 32 leagues, all of them at the highest level, and to 100 other competitions with naming right. Reducing the gender gap in sport is a commitment to women's equality through excellence and translates into an important reference point for girls, from their practice of physical activity and sport at all levels of the education system, to show them that the path to federated and high-performance sport is also possible for them. 18/05/2022Iberdrola and Qatar sign agreement to strengthen their strategic alliance in innovation Iberdrola and the Qatar Investment Promotion Agency (IPA Qatar) are joining forces to promote the energy company's leading innovation centre, with the aim of advancing the digitalisation of Qatar's electricity sector. The agreement will enable the Spanish company to expand its Research, Development and Innovation (R&D&I) activities through its Iberdrola Innovation Middle East centre , based in Doha. The new collaboration will contribute to enhancing innovative solutions and products in the public and private sectors. The centre, currently located in the Qatar Science and Technology Park, will focus on technological challenges related to innovation and digitalisation in smart grids , renewable energy integration and energy efficiency. The Qatari agency's contribution will be key to accelerating the projects of the innovation platform located in the country's capital. The platform will focus on aligning Iberdrola's R&D&I activities with the needs of Qatari industry and will cooperate with companies and training centres to boost local talent. It will do so through skills development and training programmes and will share intellectual property rights with local educational and industrial institutions. Ignacio Galán, who reaffirmed this alliance at a business meeting organised by the CEOE (Spanish Confederation of Business Organisations), said that "Iberdrola has been and will continue to be an accelerator for the expansion of small companies in the world". The Iberdrola Chairman added that Iberdrola's experience in Qatar for almost 20 years is the best testimony to the opportunities in the country. "Just today we have signed an expansion agreement here, consolidating a centre that is already a world reference in smart grids, renewable energy integration and energy efficiency, and undoubtedly the leading centre in the Middle East in its field," he said. The Qatar Investment Promotion Agency oversees activities under the Invest Qatar brand and acts as the country's umbrella organisation for attracting foreign investment. Through its close coordination with Qatari licensing platforms, it helps companies advance their ambitions and achieve long-term success by providing the necessary support, advice and expertise. IPA Qatar aims to showcase the emirate as an exceptional investment destination, connecting international investors with business opportunities, while advancing the country's economic development and diversification objectives across all sectors and geographies. Iberdrola and Qatar, a strategic alliance Iberdrola has become a strategic partner of Qatar in recent years, collaborating in the construction of a knowledge-based economy and developing solutions for a sustainable future in that country for more than two decades. Iberdrola's leadership in digitalisation and renewable energies, key elements in the transformation of the energy sector towards electrification and decarbonisation, has allowed it to take advantage of cooperation opportunities with the Qatari government since 2005, a country determined to diversify its economy, away from hydrocarbons. The collaboration between Iberdrola and Qatar was consolidated in 2011, when the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) became Iberdrola's main shareholder. Since then, the Spanish company has always grown with Qatar's support for its business model, investing in renewable energy, smart grids, storage and smart solutions for our customers. This strategic alliance has enabled the company to increase its size sixfold, making it the largest company on the Spanish stock exchange, with a market capitalisation of around 70 billion euros, the largest electricity company in Europe, and one of the four largest in the world. Stimulating R&D&I growth As a result of this close collaboration, in 2016 Iberdrola decided to create Iberdrola Innovation Middle East, from where it develops solutions based on cutting-edge digital technology for three essential areas of the global energy sector: renewable energy integration, smart grids and solutions for end-user customers. Qatar has an excellent location between Europe and Asia and offers great opportunities to attract global talent and partner with world-class universities and research centres. At Iberdrola Innovation Middle East, machine learning algorithms and visualisation software have been designed to drastically improve the operations and maintenance of wind turbines at Iberdrola's wind farms around the world. Only a company like Iberdrola, with close to 20,000 MW of installed onshore wind farms, can tackle this type of project, using the data it continuously collects from more than 7,000 turbines around the world. For offshore wind projects, the centre conducts system stability studies to ensure that offshore installations can safely evacuate their output to the transmission grid. On the customer side, technologies based on cloud computing have been developed to enable the user to control electric vehicles, heat pumps, water heaters and solar panels, and thus, not be a passive but an active player, who can contribute to making the grid and system more manageable and contribute to the goal of net-zero emissions. The secret of the Spanish company's success lies in combining traditional skills, such as power systems engineering and energy management, with IT skills, such as data analysis and software development. Iberdrola has recruited graduates from Qatar's universities, forming a great team combining local recruitment with international talent from Iberdrola and other countries. Joint development with leading partners is the other key aspect of this centre, which has cooperation agreements and several research projects with three Qatari universities: HBKU, Texas A&M and Qatar University; as well as a collaborative project with Qatar's utility company, Kahramaa, in different fields such as smart metering, electric vehicles and energy efficiency in schools. 13/05/2022His Majesty the King inaugurates Iberdrola's green hydrogen plant in Puertollano, the largest for industrial use in Europe His Majesty King Felipe VI, accompanied by the President of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, and the Chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, today inaugurated the company's green hydrogen plant in Puertollano (Ciudad Real). It is the largest facility of its kind for industrial use in Europe, and is also the largest plant currently operating in the world. The event was also attended by the Government Delegate in Castilla-La Mancha, Francisco Tierraseca; the Mayor of Puertollano, Adolfo Muñiz; the Secretary of State for Territorial Policy and Public Function, Alfredo González; the President of Fertiberia, Javier Goñi; the Regional Minister of Economy, Business and Employment of Castilla-La Mancha; and the Regional Minister of Sustainable Development of Castilla-La Mancha, José Luis Escudero. During his speech, Ignacio Galán explained that the plant presented today represents the start of a major plan of more than 2,000 million euros to replace imported gas with green hydrogen in the production of ammonia for fertilisers. The Chairman of Iberdrola highlighted the company's investments in "all technologies that contribute to decarbonising the economy and increasing energy independence" with projects such as this one, "the result of Iberdrola's philosophy of supporting the reindustrialisation of the country". Ignacio Galán also expressed his confidence in the full commitment of the public administrations "so that we can continue to make Spain a leading country in sectors of the future, such as renewable energies and, now also, green hydrogen and its industrial derivatives". This facility could make Spain a benchmark in the production and development of this new energy vector, which would make a decisive contribution to the decarbonisation of sectors that are difficult to electrify, such as fertilisers, high-temperature industry and heavy transport. With a total investment of 150 million euros, which includes both the green hydrogen facilities and a dedicated photovoltaic power plant, the Puertollano plant will be able to produce up to 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year and avoid the emission of 78,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. The Puertollano plant will be able to generate 100% green hydrogen through one of the world's largest electrolysis systems. The project will have zero CO emissions2 thanks to the use of renewable energy from an innovative 100 MW solar photovoltaic plant integrated into the facility. This plant - the company's first of its kind in Spain - has bifacial panels and a lithium-ion battery system with a storage capacity of 20 MWh. Its bifacial modules allow for higher production, as they have two light-sensitive surfaces. It will thus have an annual output of around 156,000 MWh. Tractor effect and job creation The construction of this project has boosted the development of the region's economy, involving some 80 local companies and creating more than 1,000 jobs, most of them local. The city of Puertollano could also benefit from a new project being promoted by Iberdrola to use the waste heat produced at the hydrogen plant in the future, as a result of the electrolysis process, to create a 100% green heat network in the municipality. This initiative - a pioneering one for the company - will make it possible to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels for heating in the town. The green hydrogen produced at the Iberdrola plant can be used in the Fertiberia Group's ammonia factory in Puertollano, which, thanks to this technology, will be able to reduce the plant's natural gas needs and will become the first European company in its sector to develop a large-scale experience in green ammonia generation. The start-up of the Puertollano plant represents the first phase of the plan that envisages the development by Iberdrola of 40,000 tonnes per year of green hydrogen for Fertiberia's consumption between now and 2027, with a potential investment of 1,800 million euros. This initiative would represent 20% of the national target for 2030 and would ensure that around 25% of the hydrogen currently consumed in Spain does not generate CO emissions2 . This project has been submitted to the Spanish Hydrogen IPCEI, which is subject to analysis by the European Commission. Its materialisation depends on obtaining the expected public support. Iberdrola: at the forefront of a new green revolution Just as it did with clean energy 20 years ago, Iberdrola is at the forefront of a new renewable revolution, supporting industry to reduce its polluting emissions thanks to this new technology. The group has a project portfolio that could involve investments of 9 billion euros by 2030, with the aim of producing 400,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. At present, it has already initiated more than 60 projects around the world. Among them, the green hydrogen plant recently started up in Barcelona's Zona Franca, which will supply this clean energy to Barcelona's metropolitan buses and will promote the creation of a green hydrogen hub in one of the country's main industrial areas. The company has submitted more than 50 renewable hydrogen proposals to the Next Generation EU programme, which would mobilise an investment of more than 2.4 billion euros for the installation of power capable of generating more than 100,000 tonnes per year in Spain. The Iberdrola group is promoting numerous green hydrogen projects in other countries, including the two largest in the UK. The first, in partnership with Storegga, will come into operation from 2024 in Cromarty, in the north of Scotland, with a capacity in its initial phase of up to 4,000 tonnes/year, with the possibility of expanding in the future to 20,000 tonnes. The project will enable the decarbonisation of distillery heating processes. The second will be located at the Whitelee wind farm on the outskirts of Glasgow. This facility, which will be able to produce 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, will come on stream in 2023 and will be capable of supplying enough emission-free hydrogen to power up to 550 buses a day to and from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
