15/10/2025 - 13:08 UTC +02:00Iberdrola strengthens its presence in Australia with the purchase of the Tungkillo battery storage project Iberdrola has acquired the Tungkillo battery storage project, located in South Australia, from the RES Australia group, which will involve an investment of 275 million euros. This infrastructure, which will have 270 MW and a storage capacity of 1,080 MWh, has all the key approvals and very advanced connection rights, in addition to the land already secured. Its entry into operation is expected in 2028. The Australian system requires a significant increase in battery storage capacity to integrate the new renewable capacity and bring flexibility to the system. The location of the Tungkillo project, in the south of the country, is optimal for providing this service. In the case of Iberdrola Australia , the storage systems provide backup capacity for its portfolio of energy sales contracts to customers. The company has two other projects under construction, Smithfield (in New South Wales) and Broadsound (in the state of Queensland), which will come into operation in 2026. Investment in line with the 2025-28 Plan The acquisition of the Tungkillo battery system is fully consistent with the Group's recently presented 2025-28 plan , which foresees total investments of more than €1 billion in Australia, a country with a AAA credit rating, mainly in battery development. The plan foresees a total investment of 58,000 million euros, an amount that will be allocated 85% to countries with an A rating equipped with stable, predictable and attractive regulatory frameworks. The United Kingdom will be the main destination for investment, with 20,000 million euros, followed by the United States, with 16,000 million, the Iberian Peninsula, with 9,000 million euros, Brazil, with 7,000 million euros and other EU countries and Australia, with 5,000 million. 14/10/2025 - 13:35 UTC +02:00The Alto Paranaíba transmission project in Brazil enters its final phase Neoenergia is entering the final phase of the major Alto Paranaíba project, one of Brazil’s largest electricity transmission initiatives, which crosses the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo. The company has completed all the foundations and erected 99 % of the towers, with 3,217 structures erected out of the 3,244 planned. Completing the foundations in an initiative of this magnitude is a significant achievement that demonstrates the soundness of the planning and the dedication of the teams on the ground. The foundation process – essential to ensuring the stability, safety and strength of the infrastructure for decades to come – involves deep excavations, high-precision concreting and the installation of fittings capable of supporting tonnes of metal structure for each of the towers, adapting the work to the different types of soil along the route. Cable laying is also progressing at a good pace, with 78 % of the work completed, representing 1,226 kilometres of the planned 1,573 kilometres. In total, the construction project is now 93 % complete. Neoenergia expects to complete all the work necessary for the commissioning of this infrastructure, which is essential for Brazil’s energy future, by the end of this year. Alto Paranaíba will contribute to the security and reliability of Brazil’s National Interconnected System. The project, awarded to Neoenergia in the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) transmission auction No. 01/2022, will increase the capacity of the grid between the northern region of Minas Gerais and São Paulo and the transmission of energy generated in the interior of the country. 06/10/2025Ignacio Galán with Spanish race walker María Pérez in Bilbao after her two gold medals at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo The chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, welcomed María Pérez to Torre Iberdrola, the company's headquarters in Bilbao, today to congratulate her in person on making history at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The race walker won two new gold medals in the 20 and 35 kilometre race walking events, a milestone she had already achieved at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest. With her four world titles — an unprecedented achievement in Spanish athletics, both male and female — the Granada native has established herself as the best Spanish athlete of all time, both for her track record and her impact on the history of Spanish sport. María is part of the Iberdrola Ambassadors programme, made up of 35 athletes and role models who promote female representation and leadership in sport and whom the company seeks to give as much exposure as possible in the media and on social networks. Ignacio Galán congratulated her on behalf of all the company's employees, saying ‘We feel immense pride and admiration for athletes like María, who through their hard work, sacrifice and commitment represent the best of Spanish sport. Her example inspires thousands of people and shows that talent, when accompanied by perseverance, has no limits. For Iberdrola, it is an honour to have partners like her in promoting equality for and representation of women in sport. Her success in Tokyo is a triumph for all of us for the values we share: self-improvement, teamwork and passion for what we do.’ The race walker said ‘I’d like to thank Iberdrola for its unconditional support, which has been essential in my career, and also for its commitment to women's sport. It’s an honour for me to be an ambassador for this great project. Being part of the Jury of Honour for the Iberdrola Supera Awards is another step forward in this relationship, at a very special time for Spanish sports. I’m proud to share values that promote talent and representation for women in sport’. Two decades promoting equality through women's sport in Spain Since 2016, Iberdrola has been the main promoter of women's sport. Today it supports 35 national federations through its sponsorship and lends its name to more than 100 competitions. Thanks to its commitment over the last nine years, the number of female members of these federations has increased by more than 80% to nearly 820,000. Every year, the Group presents the Iberdrola Supera Awards to recognise and raise awareness about the best projects launched in Spain to promote gender equality through sport. These awards, with top prizes of €50,000, select projects in the categories of Supera Base, Supera Competición, Supera Inclusión, Supera Social, Supera Difusión and Supera Impulso Rural. The electricity company's support also extends to paralympic sport. Since its creation in 2005, it has worked with the Spanish Paralympic Committee's (CPE) paralympic sport support plan (or ADOP) to provide our athletes with the best conditions to carry out their preparation and participate in all competitions with a guarantee of success. Likewise, Iberdrola, through its Foundation in Spain and together with the CPE, offers paralympic athletes who are beneficiaries of the ADOP plan scholarships for university and postgraduate training. This partnerships agreement aims to facilitate the professional training of athletes for their future integration into the labour market once their careers are over. The company is also one of the partners in the Women’s Universe programme, a comprehensive initiative for the development and advancement of women in society that carries out activities that contribute to social transformation through the values of women's sport.
