20/11/2025 - 16:06 UTC +01:00Iberdrola obtains final authorisation for the NECEC transmission line between the United States and Canada Avangrid, the US subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group , has announced that it has obtained the final permit required for the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) transmission line project, which will connect the United States and Canada via a 233-kilometer high-voltage line . This milestone marks the final regulatory step in a rigorous multi-year process and clears the way for the completion of one of the largest and most transformative energy projects in the region. The NECEC project will supply 1,200 megawatts of baseload hydroelectric power from Quebec (Canada) to New England (United States), primarily to the state of Massachusetts, reducing carbon emissions by up to 3.6 million metric tons per year. During its installation, it has facilitated the creation of more than 1,600 jobs. Once fully operational, which is expected to happen by the end of the year, the connection will strengthen the reliability and security of New England's electricity system, enable more competitive electricity prices, and boost socioeconomic development. The project will provide clean energy to 1.2 million homes and generate approximately €2.6 billion in net benefits for Massachusetts electricity distribution customers, resulting in monthly savings on their bills. 19/11/2025Iberdrola-sponsored ENLIT Europe, the largest international trade fair for electrification, kicks off in Bilbao ENLIT Europe, the largest international trade fair for connecting industries to drive the energy transition towards a sustainable solution, opened its doors in Bilbao (Basque Country, Spain), with the support of Iberdrola as Green Electrification Partner. The event, in which the company plays a significant role, brings together more than 15,000 professionals, 700 exhibiting companies and representatives from more than 140 countries to analyse the challenges and opportunities that will shape the future of energy in Europe. The official opening was presided over by the Deputy General of Bizkaia, Elixabete Etxanobe, who inaugurated the event alongside the Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto; the Basque Government’s Minister for Industry, Energy Transition and Sustainability, Mikel Jauregi; the CEO of Iberdrola España, Mario Ruiz-Tagle and Paddy Young, Director of Enlit Media. Pedro Azagra, CEO of Iberdrola , visited the fair together with other executives. The Awards, which brought together more than 100 collaborating companies, were divided into six categories. The Group awarded its Special Supplier of the Year Award to British company KIRBY, with whom it is working with hand in hand to modernise the country's electricity grid. As part of the Group's vocation to achieve a more efficient and resilient energy system, Amazon Web Services (United States) and Electrotécnica Arteche Hermanos (Spain) were awarded in the categories of Digitalization and New Technologies and Innovation, respectively. Supporting Iberdrola's commitment to industrial development and job creation, NKT Cables Portugal was awarded Best Equipment Manufacturer Supplier, and Grupo de Arquitectura y Obra Civil SL GAROC (Spain), Best Works and Services Supplier. Finally, under the umbrella of promoting competitiveness and sustainability, the company recognized the Austrian company Andritz Hydro in the Involvement category and the Croatian company KONČAR – Distribution and Special Transformers Inc. in the Sustainability category. Transformative plan to boost electrification and create value This September in London, Iberdrola presented a new 2025-2028 transformative plan that includes investments of 58 billioneuros, with nearly two-thirds destined to the United States and the United Kingdom. Of this figure, 37 billion euros will be allocated to the field of electricity networks and 21 billion euros to renewable generation projects and customers. These investments will involve purchases worth 65 billion euros from 20,000 suppliers that support 500,000 jobs in the world. For the digital version of the centre, which is already being used by over 260 vocational training centres across Spain, the entire facility and all its equipment have been scanned so that students can complete their training cycles through virtual reality using digital twins . This training will also be available to installer associations throughout Spain. The meeting highlighted how the transition to a green economy opens up new career opportunities for young people and the challenges of taking advantage of them. Seven young people from the PerifaConnection and Observatório das Baixadas projects participated in a direct conversation with company executives about career prospects in this scenario. A study conducted by LinkedIn showed the need to double the number of professionals focused on green jobs by 2050. And Brazil has the potential to fill this gap: data from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) show that the country ranks fourth in the world in terms of the number of young people between the ages of 18 and 24 who are neither working nor studying. The agreement, which was signed in July 2025 to support the modernisation of the electricity network in Brazil’s fifth-largest state, was announced during the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil. The financing will support the expansion of the electricity network and the construction of new connections, as well as investment in automation equipment, contributing to the modernisation of the distribution network. The report analyses the voluntary transparency of Ibex 35 companies in their public disclosure of policies and practices in the area of compliance. The study, titled Transparency and good governance in the compliance practices of Ibex 35 companies, awards Iberdrola 33 out of a possible 34 points – three more than the second-placed company – and highlights in particular its detailed Compliance System Transparency Report [PDF]. The report assesses 17 indicators and classifies companies into three categories according to the level of transparency in their public information: transparent (which is led by Iberdrola), translucent and opaque. 13/11/2025 - 18:50 UTC +01:00Iberdrola will increase its investments in the Basque Country by 50% in the period 2025-28 Iberdrola's Executive Chairman Ignacio Galán held a meeting with Basque President Imanol Pradales at the Lehendakaritza in Vitoria-Gasteiz. During the meeting, Galán outlined the impact of his new strategic plan for the Basque Country. In particular, Iberdrola's new plan includes a 50% increase in investment in the Basque Country, mainly in electricity networks , to reach €1.3 billion, with the aim of integrating new industrial and residential demand and continuing to make the Basque Country a benchmark in digitalisation. Adding purchases from hundreds of local companies, tax contributions, salaries and dividends to its Basque shareholders, the total impact will reach €12 billion by 2028. In addition, the performance of Iberdrola's share price over the last year has increased the value of the savings of the 60,000 Basque shareholders invested in Iberdrola shares by more than €2 billion to over €7 billion. A transformative plan to advance electrification Last September, Iberdrola presented the largest investment plan in its history, €58 billion for the period 2025-2028, focused on regulated businesses in countries with an A rating and stable, predictable and attractive frameworks. These investments, which represent a 30% increase over the 2021-2024 period, will be mainly allocated to the Networks business (€37 billion), followed by Renewables and Customers (€21 billion). Thanks to this plan, Iberdrola will hire more than 15,000 new employees over the next four years.
