28/03/2017Iberdrola is already protecting 100% of its customers in Spain from having their energy supply cut off Iberdrola is already protecting 100% of its residential customers from having their electricity and/or gas supply cut off due to not paying their bills. This move comes under the agreements signed with the public authorities, NGOs and associations and the procedure set in motion by the company in 2015 to protect its vulnerable customers. It confirms the company’s commitment to the less fortunate citizens of this country. The company undertakes to take care of customers in vulnerable circumstances and cooperate in giving them ongoing access to the electricity and gas supply, depending on the policies put in place by the competent public administrations in each particular case. Since the end of July 2015, Iberdrola has signed 50 agreements for the protection of its customers with autonomous communities, municipal and provincial federations, city councils, NGOs and associations. Ignacio Galán, chairman of Iberdrola, said that “the company is aware of the complexity and the difficulties facing many people in the current situation and so we have signed these agreements in Spain to ensure that electricity and gas continue to be supplied to economically vulnerable users. We are already protecting all our company’s customers who belong to this group.” The protection, which covers 7.35 million of Iberdrola’s residential customers in this country, applies to all consumers who have contracted the supply of electricity and/or gas to their normal home from the company and are considered to be customers in vulnerable circumstances. Iberdrola Group’s General CSR Policy This unwavering commitment by Iberdrola, which is part of its broader commitment to the principles of solidarity and service to the community, comes in response to its approval and application in 2015 of a procedure to protect its economically vulnerable customers in Spain. It is in line with the Group’s new General Corporate Social Responsibility Policy: https://www.iberdrola.com/wcorp/gc/prod/en_US/corporativos/docs/general_corporate_social_responsibility_policy.pdf The goal of this policy is to set out the basic principles and the general framework of action for managing the corporate social responsibility practices undertaken by the company. It is also intended to serve as the basis for integrating social responsibility in the Group’s business model and strategy. READ MORE

24/03/2017Edwin van der Heide transforms the atrium of Azkuna Zentroa with ‘Elevated Projection’, an installation of light and sound, thanks to Iberdrola's support Starting today, and until 2 April, the audiovisual composition ‘Elevated Projection’ by the artist Edwin van der Heide (Hilversum,1970), will transform the Azkuna Zentroa Atrium of Cultures each evening. The piece is sponsored by Iberdrola and will be open to the public between 20:00 and 23:00 (admission free). In ‘Elevated Projection’, light plays with the architecture of space whilst creating new structures and experiences within it. Multiple lasers and a thin layer of smoke will create shapes and make light tangible, producing a changing and three-dimensional environment which the public can penetrate. This work of art is part of LSP (Laser Sound Performance), a series of pieces in which Edwin van der Heide explores the relationship between sound and three-dimensional image by means of laser projections onto smoke. The artist creates complex relationships between light and sound within a space. The work thus has bodily, almost tangible, qualities, evolving before the eyes of the spectator, who is immersed in constantly changing surroundings. Edwin van der Heide (Hilversum, 1970) is an artist and researcher in the fields of sound, space and interaction. In his piece he expands the concepts of composition and musical language in spacial, interactive and multi-disciplinary directions. Van der Heide places his audience at the centre of his pieces and challenges them to actively explore, interact and relate with them. The Dutch artist has exhibited his pieces at prestigious museums and festivals such as SMAK (Ghent), Ars Electronica Festival (Linz), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), V2_'s DEAF (Rotterdam), ICC (Tokyo), NAMOC (Beijing), Transmediale (Berlin), SONAR (Barcelona), Taipei Fine Arts Museum, SFMOMA (San Francisco), FILE (Brazil) and SONAMBIENTE (Berlin). Iberdrola Week The presence of Edwin van der Heide's work at Azkuna Zentroa is part of Iberdrola Week, which will end on 31 March with the company's General Shareholders' Meeting at the Euskalduna Conference Centre in Bilbao. Iberdrola is thus once again showing its commitment to spreading culture and art, and particularly ground-breaking art, as it also did, for example, by supporting the Salamanca Festival de Luz y Vanguardias (Festival of Light and the Avant-Garde), the first edition of which in 2016 also featured a piece by the Dutch artist. 21/03/2017Iberdrola awarded construction and operation of 766-MW combined-cycle power station in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico Iberdrola has been awarded the contract for an important new energy project in Mexico, the Topolobampo III combined-cycle power plant (CCGT), strengthening its role as the country’s foremost private power company. Iberdrola’s new 766-MW facility in the country will be equipped with the latest technology requiring an investment of some US$400 million. The Topolobampo III CCGT will be built in the municipality of Ahome, in the state of Sinaloa, and will supply electricity to over 2.5 million Mexican citizens when it becomes operational in January 2020. Owned by Iberdrola, the company will handle construction, operation and maintenance of the plant and will sell its production in full to the Mexican Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) under a 25-year contract, with fixed capacity fees. This long-term agreement with CFE offers great security to Iberdrola’s investment as it brings the project into line with the company’s strategy of growing in regulated, predictable activities that are located in stable, highly-rated countries. In addition, the operation allows the company to strengthen its strategic relationship with the CFE, its top customer worldwide. The Topolobampo III station will be equipped with model H01 gas turbines fabricated by GE, one of Iberdrola’s major technology suppliers in the power generation business. In addition to the plant's construction, Iberdrola will commission all ancillary facilities required for its connection to Mexico’s national power grid, including power lines and the transformer substation. Iberdrola currently has power generation projects under way in Mexico with a combined investment worth around US$3 billion, which highlights the extent of the company’s commitment to this country, one of the most important ever. To be more specific, it is building three new combined-cycle plants; the North-east (Escobedo), North-west (Topolobampo II) and El Carmen, and two cogeneration plants, San Juan del Río and Altamira. It is also developing 325 MW of wind power, with two projects, PIER (220 MW) and Santiago Wind Power (105 MW), in the states of Puebla and Guanajuato, respectively. Furthermore, Iberdrola has taken another step forward in its commitment to renewables in Mexico by beginning construction of its first two large-scale photovoltaic power plants. With a combined capacity of 270 MW, the Hermosillo (100 MW) and Santiago Photovoltaic (170 MW) plants are in the states of Sonora and San Luís Potosí, respectively. Iberdrola has been doing business in Mexico for over 18 years. Throughout that time it has continually expanded its investments and activities, consolidating its position as the country’s largest private electricity producer with 6,000 MW already in operation, the equivalent to supplying power to over 20 million Mexican citizens. 21/03/2017Iberdrola has been awarded up to 1,500 MW of offshore wind capacity in the United States, its first project employing this technology in that country At yesterday's auction Iberdrola, through AVANGRID, was awarded the rights to develop and construct an offshore wind farm with a capacity of up to 1,486 MW in the area known as Kitty Hawk, 24 nautical miles off the coast of North Carolina, in the United States. The award will allow Iberdrola to apply its know-how to the development of the emerging offshore wind sector in the United States, whose east coast combines the optimum conditions of depth and wind resources. In the auction, organised by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM), Iberdrola's offer topped those presented by the Norwegian company Statoil, the U.S. company Wind Future and German company WPD Offshore Alpha. Other companies which had pre-qualified for bidding decided not to tender a bid at the last moment, these included the Canadian companies Northland Power and Enbridge and the wind power subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell. Iberdrola will now have one year in which to present BOEM with an initial assessment of the area's wind potential for its approval. Following this it will have 54 months to present details of the engineering project for the construction and operation of the wind farm. This award makes Iberdrola the world's leading electricity company in the offshore wind sector. This is all the result of a well-designed and perfectly executed investment plan which, thanks to its excellent team of engineers, has allowed it to gain the skills and experience necessary to successfully compete in a highly specialised sector. Offshore wind, a commitment to the future for Iberdrola Iberdrola has made a determined commitment to offshore wind energy as one of the keys to the company's future. It is currently undertaking its activities in this new business sector in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the United States. The company reached a milestone in 2014 when it became the first Spanish company to open a wind farm with the West of Duddon Sands (WoDS) wind farm. Iberdrola undertook this project through its British subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables and in partnership with the Danish company Dong, investing more than £1.6 billion pounds between them. WoDS has a capacity of 389 MW, enabling it to produce enough electricity to meet the demand of approximately 300,000 UK homes. The offshore wind farm is located about 20 kilometres from Barrow-in-Furness, off the north-west coast of England. Since its launch it has achieved some extraordinary results, both in terms of production and hours available. WoDS covers an area of 67 square kilometres (km2) and its turbines, which have been supplied by the German company Siemens, have a unitary capacity of 3.6 MW. Iberdrola is currently building the Wikinger wind farm in German waters in the Baltic Sea. It will require the investment of some €1.4 billion euros and have a capacity of 350 megawatts (MW), enough to meet the needs of over 350,000 German homes and avoid the emission of almost 600,000 tonnes of CO 2 each year into the atmosphere. The installation is located about 75 kilometres off the coast and it will be operational from October 2017. Iberdrola is also preparing to begin the construction of its third offshore project next year, the East Anglia One wind farm, with a capacity of 714 MW, which will supply clean energy to more than 500,000 British homes. This will be the largest Spanish project in the history of the renewables sector and it will be the world's largest offshore wind farm when it enters into operation in 2020 after an investment of £2.5 billion pounds. Siemens will supply 102 turbines with a unitary capacity of 7 MW for this offshore wind farm. The turbines will be built by the German manufacturer in its new facilities located in the city of Hull, in the north-east of England. In addition, Iberdrola has asked the British government to expand this installation up to 2,000 MW. It has, therefore, presented the United Kingdom authorities with a proposal to build the East Anglia Three wind farm, which would have a capacity of 1,200 MW. These new facilities will be joined by the Saint-Brieuc wind farm (496 MW), in French waters, which is expected to begin operation in 2022. This wind farm will have a capacity of 496 MW and will be located in Saint-Brieuc Bay, off the coast of Brittany, 20 kilometres offshore and about 100 kilometres from the city of Rennes. This offshore wind farm will feature 62 of the latest generation turbines with an 8 MW capacity, located within an an area of 75 km⊃2;, which will be a Spanish project as it has been commissioned from Adwen, a Gamesa company dedicated to offshore wind farms. This facility, which is being developed by Iberdrola in collaboration with the company RES and Caisse des Dépôts, will be the company’s fourth offshore wind farm when it is commissioned. The energy produced at this location is expected to meet the electricity needs of the equivalent of 850,000 inhabitants. Iberdrola in the United States The company has a generation capacity of 6,900 MW in the United States, mainly wind and solar power, and is building 1,800 MW of new onshore wind capacity, with phased entry into operation from now until the end of 2019. AVANGRID is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and has assets valued at more than $31 billion dollars. It is present in 25 States with wind power generation and distribution companies, serving approximately 3.2 million customers in New York State and the states in the New England region. READ MORE
