23/04/2018Iberdrola closes in Mexico the first green financing deal by a company in Latin America Through its subsidiary, Iberdola Mexico, Iberdrola has signed the the first green loan in that country by a company in Latin America. This loan for 400 million dollars has a five-year term, which can be extended for another two years, and was signed with ten relationship banks, with BBVA acting as the administrative agent bank and BBVA Bancomer the global coordinator and green agent bank. The conditions Iberdrola was granted are highly beneficial and the funds will finance socially responsible projects in accordance with the sustainable nature of the loan. The group will allocate 400 million dollars to refinance the construction of three windfarms in Mexico. The company continues to pioneer in sustainable funding after becoming the first power company in the world to sign a green loan last year and the first Spanish company to issue a green voucher in April 2014. The green category was certified by the independent agency Vigeo Eiris, which makes sure that the resources are used correctly, in line with Green Loan Principles . With this transaction, Iberdrola reaffirms its commitment to Mexico, where it is the leading private electricity producer and where it forecasts reaching more than 11,000 megawatts in installed capacity at the end of the period, in line with the group's 2018-2022 Strategy Perspective, generating more than 20% of the power that Mexico will consume by then. Socially responsible financing strategy Iberdrola was the biggest green voucher issuer at company level in 2016 and 2017. The company has also made all its public offerings in 2018 in this format. In January, Iberdrola signed the largest credit deal in the world under sustainability criteria, for 5.3 billion euros, with a spread associated with reducing the group's emissions. This commitment to sustainable financing is part of Iberdrola's commitment to the Sustainability Development Goals (SDG) on the UN’s 2030 agenda, which the company has incorporated in its strategy. Iberdrola has focused specifically on goal 7 (affordable and clean energy) and goal 13 (climate action). READ MORE

13/04/2018Iberdrola shareholders overwhelmingly endorse Ignacio Galán’s management as Chairman of the group Iberdrola held its Annual General Meeting today in the Euskalduna auditorium in Bilbao. The group’s shareholders expressed their overwhelming support for Chairman Ignacio Galán’s management of the company. The Meeting, which saw 76.1% of Iberdrola’s share capital represented, approved all the proposed resolutions on the agenda with an average of 98.5% of votes in favour distributed as follows: * Group 1 (financial statements and corporate management) 99.1%. * Group 2 (Board of Directors) 98.6%. * Group 3 (Remunerations) 97.7%. * Group 4 (Treasury Stock) 97.6%. * Group 5 (Resolutions) 99.9%. During his presentation to shareholders, Galán gave his forecast for 2018 results: he estimates that group EBITDA will grow by more than 20% to exceed €9 billion, and that net profit will come in at nearly €3 billion. With this trend, the group Chairman foresees the dividend continuing to improve. The dividend grows in line with profit After reviewing the heavy capital expenditure undertaken by Iberdrola last year, amounting to €5.891 billion (+38%), the highest figure in the past nine years, the Chairman recalled the net profit obtained by the company in 2017, which came to €2.804 billion, 3.7% more than in 2016. “With these results, the Board of Directors proposes to the General Shareholders’ Meeting an increase of 4% in shareholder remuneration, to €0.323 gross per share, which involves distributing a total of more than €2 billion among our shareholders,” Ignacio Galán announced, referring to the dividend for 2017. This amount consists of the €0.14 gross per share already paid in January plus another €0.183 gross per share to be distributed in July. This shareholder remuneration will also be supplemented with an AGM attendance bonus of €0.005 gross per share. Total shareholder return (TSR)[1] over the past three years amounted to 29%, which is more than that on the main benchmark stock exchange indices. Furthermore this positive evolution is backed up by the 35 analysts who follow Iberdrola. They all recommend buying or holding the stock, with a target price almost 20% higher than the current listing. More international, and greener Galán reviewed the company’s main achievements in 2017. Throughout the year, in accordance with its business model, Iberdrola continued to concentrate on its internationalisation and on the renewables, networks and energy storage business areas. The group Chairman recalled the integration of the businesses in Brazil, which gave rise to the new Neoenergia, the country’s biggest electric utility and the leader in Latin America in terms of the number of customers, in which Iberdrola holds a 52.45% equity stake. In the renewables business, highlights were the commissioning of 1,400 new megawatts (MW) and the start of construction of nearly 6,000 additional MW. Galán referred in particular to the start-up of the Wikinger wind farm in the German portion of the Baltic Sea, and to progress on East Anglia One, in the North Sea, commissioning of which is scheduled for 2020. These two projects illustrate Iberdrola’s firm bet on offshore wind generation and innovation. In networks, 2017 was marked by the completion of the undersea connection between Scotland and Wales, known as the Western Link, with the capacity to supply four million households, and the installation of more than ten million smart meters in Spain, on the home straight of the STAR project. Another of Iberdrola’s major areas of activity is energy storage, an outstanding example being the construction of the Tâmega hydroelectric complex in Portugal. With an investment of €1.5 billion, it is the biggest project of this type in the country’s history. At the same time, Iberdrola is developing initiatives with batteries in the United States, Spain and the United Kingdom. In the long-term contracted generation business in Mexico, the company commissioned the new Baja California III combined cycle power plant, which increased Iberdrola’s production in the country by 11%, to 41,900 gigawatt hours (GWh). A benchmark in the fight against climate change One of the main themes in Galán’s presentation was the transition to a decarbonised economy and the necessary transformation of the energy sector, which “will be brought about by society’s demanding that the reduction of polluting emissions be speeded up in the face of evidence of their impact not just on the environment but also on health.” The decarbonisation of the economy, to meet growing demand while at the same time confronting the challenge of climate change, will entail greater electrification. The Chairman of Iberdrola considered that in this scenario it will be essential to develop more renewables and more networks, for which worldwide capital expenditure of €20 trillion will be required between now and 2040. Ignacio Galán asserted that “we are now a global benchmark in the fight against climate change. An effort constituting not only a moral imperative, but also one that has provided and continues to provide great business opportunities.” He also stressed, as he had done in the last Climate Summit, held in Bonn, the urgency of the problem and the need to move on from words to action. In this regard he referred to the recent report of the Committee of Experts for the Climate Change and Energy Transition Act, praising the broad consensus achieved for its approval. Plans for 2018-2022 Galán also presented to the General Shareholders' Meeting the group’s plans for the period 2018-2022, which include investments of €32 billion. Of this amount, 50% will be for distribution networks and 37% for renewables. As a result of these investments, the value of Iberdrola’s regulated assets will reach €40 billion at the end of the period, an increase of nearly 40%; installed capacity in renewable energy will increase by 24% to 36,000 MW and storage capacity will increase by 25% to 100,000 megawatt hours (MWh). As regards forecast results for the next few years, Ignacio Galán confirmed that the group’s gross operating profit (EBITDA) in 2022 will be close to €12 billion and net profit will be around 30% more than that obtained in 2017. “With these forecasts we will be able to maintain our policy of increasing remuneration for shareholders in line with the increase in profits, which will involve increasing the dividend per share to €0.40 and distributing a total of €2.5 billion among all of you,” said the Chairman of the company. Iberdrola’s dividends for the period 2018 to 2022 will thus amount to nearly €12 billion, compared with the €9 billion of the previous five-year period. Social dividend: generation of wealth Ignacio Galán informed the Company’s shareholders that over the course of last year the company had also increased its social dividend, a concept incorporated into its By-laws by the 2017 AGM. He highlighted job creation, with 4,111 new hirings in 2017 alone, which together with the 6,000 personnel incorporated in Brazil make up a total workforce of around 34,000. The company’s commitment to stable, quality employment is reflected in the fact that 99.7% of the workforce in Spain have fixed contracts. One of the ways in which this commitment finds expression is Iberdrola’s bet on young talent, as reflected in the incorporation of 900 scholarship holders and apprentices. Another is the launch of the ‘Iberdrola U’ programme which encompasses agreements with the major universities of the regions where the group operates, such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey and Universidad Pontificia Comillas. Galán also assured the shareholders that “we think about our employees’ future”, for which reason “we are studying measures to supplement the pensions they will receive from the Social Security.” The Chairman of Iberdrola also referred to the commitment to gender equality, pointing out that over the past ten years the number of female managers had increased tenfold, now surpassing 800. Ignacio Galán recalled that the group is the prime mover behind the ‘Universo Mujer’ programme, which benefits 20,000 sportswomen from 15 federations. During his presentation in the Euskalduna auditorium, Galán also reviewed the purchases of goods and services made from suppliers by the company during 2017, the value of which amounted to €8.7 billion - or more than €20 billion if raw materials for energy are included. “In Spain a total of more than 85,000 people work for us, nearly 14,000 of them from this region,” he added, referring to suppliers in the Basque Country. As for the group’s tax contribution, it amounted to €14 billion last year, of which €7.111 billion correspond to taxes deposited in the public coffers of the various countries due to the direct impact of the company's activities. In Spain alone, the total tax contribution was €5.949 billion. All this without losing sight of the bet on innovation, to which Iberdrola dedicated €246 million in 2017, 17% more than in the previous year. As well as thanking the company’s shareholders, employees and trade unions, Ignacio Galán also acknowledged the work performed by the Company’s Board of Directors and welcomed Anthony Gardner to the group’s highest management body, replacing Braulio Medel, who leaves after twelve years of dedication to the company during which he always made a valuable contribution. The Chairman of Iberdrola also had a few words of remembrance for Manuel Marín: “It was a true honour to have a collaborator of this level both personally and professionally”, highlighted Galán when referring to his work at the front of the Iberdrola Foundation. 09/04/2018Iberdrola is joining the Plataforma x Aire Limpio initiative, a platform for clean air that intends to improve air quality in cities across Spain Iberdrola has joined the Plataforma x Aire Limpio initiative, a platform presented earlier today in Madrid that aims to improve air quality in cities across Spain. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air quality is poor in most of Spain's urban areas, which puts public health at risk as the first cause of premature death in Spain. Cognisant of this situation, Iberdrola is now one of several public and private organisations from various sectors –mainly energy, transport and logistics– who have come together to create Plataforma x Aire Limpio. This platform seeks to address the urgent need to improve air quality in Spanish cities and to work alongside local authorities to implement more efficient policies according to each municipal area's needs. To do so, they will be drawing on proven best practices and policies. During the presentation of the platform, Jose Arceluz, its chairman and member of the Iberdrola Regulatory Committee, expressed that 'it is the joint responsibility of everyone involved to rise to the increasingly insistent demand that civil society is making for cleaner air'. Mr Arceluz was joined by Madrid City Council's Environment and Mobility delegate, Inés Sabanés. Plataforma x Aire Limpio is supported by an Advisory Committee chaired by acclaimed scientist and researcher Xavier Querol from the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Research at CSIC. Also on the Committee are Professor Lucio Alonso Alonso, who manages the PhD Programme in Environmental Engineering at the Chemical and Environmental Engineering Department at the Advanced School of Engineering of Bilbao (UPV-EHU); Julio Díaz Jiménez, a Doctor in Physical Sciences and head scientist at the Carlos II Institute of Health at the National School of Healthcare; Cristina Monge, with a PhD from the University of Zaragoza, who works as the director of dialogue for the ECODES Foundation; the Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR); and the Energy, Environment and Technology Research Centre (CIEMAT). Iberdrola, committed to the SDGs Iberdrola has joined the clean air platform because of its commitment to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the 2030 Agenda, which the company has made a key part of its corporate strategy. Iberdrola focusses largely on SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy) and SDG 13 (climate action), but it also works on various initiatives associated with the other goals, as is the case of its involvement in Plataforma x Aire Limpio, which is directly linked to SDG 3 (good health and well‑being) and SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities). Furthermore, this type of collaboration among public and private players is a step towards SDG 17, which aims to encourage alliances that will help achieve all of the goals. READ MORE

What this means is that all the processes involved in the Annual General Meeting, which is a meeting involving Iberdrola’s highest governing body, -from planning to holding and then dismantling it- are carried out based on sustainability criteria, with the aim being to maximise Iberdrola’s contribution to the local economy, to improving the environment and to being socially committed. This has led to AENOR certifying that the company’s General Shareholder’s Meeting meets the requirements of the ISO 20121 voluntary international standard for sustainable event management. Furthermore, via Ihobe, its public environmental agency, the Basque Government has awarded the Group’s 2018 General Shareholder’s Meeting the ‘Erronka Garbia’ seal of environmental approval, which certifies the company’s exemplary conduct in key aspects of environmental sustainability in organising the event and its sociocultural commitment to maximising the positive impacts it is capable of generating. These certifications are a response to Iberdrola’s Sustainability Policy , which establishes, among other aspects, that the group’s events must strictly comply with all specific requirements -particularly, legislation in the area of health and safety, noise, waste disposal, privacy and protection of personal data-, encouraging accessibility, inclusion and non-discrimination in both their planning and execution. Objectives and measures for a sustainable AGM In this respect, and in particular reference to the AGM, Iberdrola has established the following objectives: * To ensure the event is accessible to each and every member of its workforce. * To minimise the event’s carbon footprint and energy consumption. * To improve the employment opportunities for people who experience discrimination or are from vulnerable backgrounds. * To increase the reuse of the waste generated by the General Shareholder’s Meeting. * To minimise the indirect environmental impact -environmental footprint- of the event. * To cooperate with the local community. * To improve the communication and participation processes throughout the event. * To increase awareness of sustainability among everyone involved. * To promote cultural heritage throughout the event. In order to achieve all the above, Iberdrola will be performing numerous specific actions. For example, these will include guaranteeing the accessibility of groups with different disabilities -via the use of subtitles and the deployment of magnetic loop systems to help attendees hear and follow the proceedings, promoting sustainable transport by allowing all the citizens of Bilbao to travel free on the tram on the day of the event, compensating for the CO2 emissions generated by holding the General Shareholder’s Meeting and using recyclable and reusable materials. Furthermore, individuals who find themselves in vulnerable situations will be hired to help at the event and equal employment opportunities will be promoted by way of the recruitment, as far as possible, of an equal proportion of male and female stewards and hostesses. Also, for those shareholders with young children who wish to attend the AGM, an on-site crèche service will be provided within the Euskalduna Conference Centre complex. READ MORE

28/03/2018Iberdrola invests €246 million in R&D+i in 2017, 17% more than in the previous year Iberdrola invested €246 million in Research & Development & Innovation (R&D+i) activities over the course of 2017. This represents an increase of 17% relative to the previous year’s figure of €211 million. As a result of its steadfast commitment to R&D+i, the company is Spain’s most innovative utility and number three in Europe according to the European Commission’s ranking The €246 million invested in 2017 were basically earmarked for projects relating to clean energy, smart grids, the development of tailored solutions for customers and digital transformation, in accordance with Iberdrola’s main strategic paths. Specifically, in the area of renewables, the initiatives developed centred on: improving efficiency and operating and maintenance costs on wind farms, as in the case of the Romeo project; moving ahead on the integration of renewables by developing batteries, such as the ESS2GRID plan; and innovation in the new offshore wind farms being constructed by the group. Such is the case, for example, of the Wikinger wind farm, in the German part of the Baltic Sea, for the substation of which we designed a new model of six-legged pre-piled jacket. In the area of networks, Iberdrola continued to make progress with the installation of smart grids and with the digitisation of the system. After three years of work, the company completed the UPGRID project, which succeeded in strengthening the operation and maintenance of low-voltage grids in anticipation of possible problems deriving from the large-scale introduction of distributed generation. In Spain, we would also highlight the GRIDSTORAGE project, in which an advanced micro-grid model is being developed, with storage for distribution grids. In the retail area, Iberdrola continued to move ahead with smart solutions for customers, prominent among which are the Planes a tu medida (Customised Plans), allowing users to choose the eight hours that best match their consumption, and the application for the company’s customers. We also recently launched a product called Smart Irrigation, which allows more efficient scheduling and control of residential watering and rounds out the range of smart home products offered by the company. It is important to highlight the fact that in accordance with its Prospects for 2018-2022, Iberdrola envisages investing a total of €4.8 billion in digitisation during the period, as well as developing 75 innovation projects each year. These investments will contribute an additional €600 million to group gross operating profit (EBITDA) in 2022. At the same time, Iberdrola continues to promote the culture of innovation by means of knowledge transfer, attracting talent and promoting the entrepreneurial spirit. Notable in this regard is the company’s Universities Programme , comprising various agreements with the major universities of the countries in which the company is present: Universidad de Salamanca, Universidad Pontificia de Comillas, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey and University of Strathclyde. Iberdrola-Perseo international start-up programme The Iberdrola-Perseo international start-up programme was launched in 2008 with a budget of €70 million, with the aim of promoting the creation and development of a dynamic ecosystem of entrepreneurs in the electricity sector. Since its creation, it has made investments of more than €50 million, basically in technologies and business models that allow the sustainability of the energy model to be improved by means of greater electrification and decarbonisation of the economy. Prominent among the main initiatives of 2017 was the taking of an equity stake in the US company Innowatts, which focuses on the development of digital solutions and innovation for the energy sector through its analysis and artificial intelligence platform which has data from more than 14 million smart meters. Also, in the context of the Electricity for all programme, Perseo invested in Ilumexico, a company dedicated to lighting and electrification in rural areas of Mexico. We estimate that more than 250,000 people may benefit from this initiative in the next few years. READ MORE
