In Brazil, the Iberdrola Group completed in August 2017 one of the most important corporate transactions in its recent history with the integration of all Elektro Holding’s businesses into Neoenergia, thereby creating the largest electricity company in the country and the leading utility in Latin America by number of customers.
Neoenergia’s shares began trading on the São Paulo Stock Exchange on 1 July, 2019, making this transaction the largest annual placement of its kind – an Initial Public Offering (IPO) – and the most significant in the Brazilian energy sector since the year 2000.
Following the success of the offering, Neoenergia’s shareholding structure was modified, with Iberdrola controlling 50% plus one share.
