New York Climate Week 2025
A crucial forum for the global climate agenda
United States Climate action Foros
New York City hosted the 17th edition of Climate Week (21-28 September) under the slogan Power On, which reflects the ongoing momentum and progress in the fight against climate change. As every year, the event took place in parallel with the sessions of the United Nations General Assembly and served as a meeting point and global megaphone, focused on accelerating the fulfilment of climate goals and reinforcing the commitments made by companies, governments and organisations.
Conclusions from New York Climate Week 2025
Climate Week NYC 2025 concluded with an important call for multilateral action and collaboration to accelerate climate efforts and the commitments made to limit the rise in global temperature. Many of this year’s discussions focused on national climate commitments, or NDCs (Nationally Determined Contributions), which include emission-reduction targets for 2035.
The event also served as an opportunity to showcase competitive solutions in clean-energy generation technologies and to support the development of infrastructure that ensures energy security, driven by the private sector.
In this context, Iberdrola signed the Green Grids Climate Finance Principles promoted by Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA), aimed at fostering the financing of sustainable electricity infrastructure, particularly in emerging markets. What’s more, the company supports the declaration of the Ibero-American Business Network for Green Growth, which seeks to triple renewable capacity in Ibero-America by 2030.
During Climate Week, Iberdrola also presented its reports on responsible commitment, both direct and indirect, focused on three strategic areas:
Iberdrola cares for the environment: a benchmark in electricity grids and clean energy
This pioneering commitment to clean energy has placed us in a leading position in terms of climate action, with CO2 emissions that are already six times lower than those of its European competitors.
But the Group's climate commitment does not end there: at Iberdrola, we have committed to investing a further €150 billion by 2030 to continue spearheading the energy model change facing the global economy. Our aim is to achieve CO₂eq emissions neutrality for scope 1, which largely corresponds to emissions from electricity generation, by 2030, and to reach net zero emissions across all scopes before 2040.
By supporting initiatives such as Climate Week NYC, Iberdrola is reaffirming its commitment to caring for the environment, promoting the deployment of clean energy and essential electricity grids, and driving the electrification of energy uses to promote a shift towards decarbonisation. This goal will only be possible by joining forces with all stakeholders across all regions and sectors to multiply the effectiveness of individual commitments and find new solutions.
