There is no official list with the best museums, but some of these museums are in all of the rankings prepared by experts and specialised magazines. Here are the most important museums:

Tate Modern (London, United Kingdom): the former Bankside power plant became a museum in 2000. It exhibits the work of Picasso, Ernst, Chirico, Hewitt, Kapoor... The turbine room is one of the main halls where the temporary exhibitions are hosted.

Centre Pompidou (Paris, France): more than 75,000 works of modern and contemporary art of different artists, such as Bacon, Miró, Modigliani, Matisse, Picasso or Cage.

Reina Sofía National Art Museum (Madrid, Spain): Picasso's Guernica is one of the most emblematic works of art of a collection with more than 21,000 paintings. The work of Dalí, Miró, Lorca, Moore or Kandinsky is exhibited in MNCARS, among the work of other artists.

Guggenheim Museum (Bilbao, Spain): the building of architect Frank Gehry is a work of art in itself. The collection includes paintings of Oteiza, Chillida, Serra, Basquiat, Badiola or Barceló.

MoMA (New York, United States): one of the most influential museums in the world, with such important works of art as Dalí's The Persistence of Memory, Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon or Van Gogh's The Starry Night.

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (San Francisco, United States): it was the first museum to define photography, design or cinema as forms of art. It exhibits works of art of renowned artists and, at the same time, of emerging talents.
