10/07/2023Alliance formed with AEDIVE to electrify heavy goods transport Iberdrola and the Business Association for the Development and Promotion of Electric Mobility (AEDIVE ) have signed an agreement to create an alliance for the electrification of heavy road transport in Spain. The initiative aims to accelerate the decarbonisation of heavy road transport and combat climate change. At the same time, it aims to improve fuel efficiency, limit high fuel consumption, and reduce the cost for logistics operators and the country. Iberdrola and the CEO Alliance for Europe's Recovery, Reform and Resilience (CEO Alliance For Europe ) have identified the need to join forces. This is a common place where all companies in the heavy freight value chain come together, identify bottlenecks and propose solutions to accelerate the electrification of road transport. It is the first alliance that brings together all the sectors involved in the electrification of heavy road transport: manufacturers, charging infrastructure, logistics operators and end customers. The aim is to establish a strategic collaboration between its members and to position the Spanish industry as a driving force in electrification, more specifically in road freight transport. The initiative also aims to develop a roadmap, making it a pioneer in Europe, and to serve as a lever to adapt and accelerate the regulation needed to achieve the decarbonisation targets. The alliance was presented at an event at Iberdrola's offices in Madrid attended by more than 100 representatives of public administrations, sectoral organisations and companies linked to the entire value chain of the heavy goods transport sector. "Driving an electric truck will be cheaper than a diesel truck in about five years. To accelerate this momentum, the EU has recently passed legislation on heavy road transport, which is a huge challenge for hauliers, logistics companies and energy companies. The Alliance that we are presenting today will help us all to jointly seek solutions that will enable the successful electrification of heavy transport in Spain, with benefits for the competitiveness of a key sector in the Spanish economy," said Agustín Delgado, Director of Innovation and Sustainability of the Iberdrola Group. The director general of AEDIVE, Arturo Pérez de Lucia, pointed out that "this alliance, which will be managed in the Iberian market by AEDIVE, seeks to optimise the promotion of the entire industrial, technological and service value chain focused on electric mobility in heavy goods transport and to accelerate progress towards the electrification of a key sector in road mobility". European strategy The alliance is in line with the European Union's fight against climate change and its goal for all member countries to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030. In the European Union, heavy goods transport represents only 1% of the total vehicle fleet. However, it is responsible for 25% of greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in road transport. Aware of the importance of decarbonisation in this sector, the European Union has set requirements for member states and manufacturers through the following regulations: * The Regulation on Alternative Fuels Infrastructure, which sets targets for member states for the installation of charging infrastructure for heavy duty vehicles in the EU in the coming years. * The proposed revision of the CO2 emission standards regulation for trucks which, if accepted, includes a CO2 reduction target of 90% for new trucks in 2040. 06/07/2023First power from Iberdrola’s Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm in France The first green megawatt hours from offshore renewable energy in Brittany The first green megawatts produced from Iberdrola’s Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm have been connected into the French national electricity grid by its manager, RTE. The project is Iberdrola’s first in France, and only the second offshore wind project to produce power in the country. After a testing phase, the initial electricity to flow from the wind farm was connected to the grid on July 5th under the supervision of Iberdrola’s maritime coordination center based in Kerantour (Côtes d'Armor). The production of the wind farm will increase as the 62 wind turbines are installed and commissioned in the months ahead. "It is with great pride that we have started producing clean energy from the first wind turbines in the project. This is a landmark moment, following 12 years of hard work to deliver this mega-scale project, which contributes both to the energy security of Brittany and to the energy transition, a key element in the battle against climate change," said Emmanuel Rollin, CEO of Iberdrola France. Renewable and carbon-free electricity produced in the Côtes-d'Armor for Brittany The electricity produced is collected by the offshore electrical substation located in the center of the wind farm. It is transported by two subsea export cables with a voltage of 225 kV installed by RTE (Réseau de Transport d'Électricité) to Caroual beach, in Erquy. Electricity is connected into the grid via the Doberie substation located in Hénansal (Côtes-d'Armor). The Côtes-d'Armor: a positive energy region The project will produce about 1,820 GWh/year, which corresponds to the annual electricity consumption of 835,000 inhabitants (including heating) or 9% of Brittany's total electricity consumption. Once fully commissioned, the territory of Côtes-d'Armor (600 000 inhabitants) will produce more energy than it consumes domestically. The Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm increases Brittany's energy security, while contributing to the objectives of the Multiannual Energy Program (PPE). READ MORE

30/06/2023Iberdrola invests in LatemAluminium to boost green industry Iberdrola and LatemAluminium announced that the energy company has become one of the main shareholders of the company, a national and international benchmark in the supply of recycled aluminium alloys. Iberdrola also becomes an energy partner of LatemAluminium with the aim of decarbonising all green aluminium production processes with renewable electricity and green hydrogen. With a 20% stake, it will accompany Latem in a pioneering large-scale aluminium recycling project that will reach an investment of €120 million by 2024 and help create 800 jobs by 2026, 300 of them direct. Iberdrola investment in this initiative, backed by the Regional Government of Castile and León and declared a Priority Industrial Project, reaffirms its commitment to innovation as the driving force behind green industry in Spain. This investment is channelled through Iberdrola's start-up programme, Perseo, which has already allocated more than €125 million to support the best entrepreneurs and industrial businesses worldwide that contribute to accelerating the decarbonisation and electrification of the economy. LatemAluminium's project is based on the circular economy of aluminium and the use of the most modern technologies to produce 30,000 tonnes of rolled aluminium at its factories in Zamora and León. The process ranges from the transformation of scrap into aluminium ingots and liquid aluminium to the transformation into rolled aluminium coils and their subsequent marketing. The new factory occupies a 55,000 square metre building and will use only recycled aluminium. The first operational tests will be carried out in the last quarter of the year, with the aim that the first aluminium coil from the official start-up of the factory will see the light of day in the first quarter of 2024. With this alliance, both companies ratify their rural commitment and their commitment to sustainability. It is clear to them that their investments to promote sustainable projects in a rural environment can be the best ally for a greener world: they create jobs, contribute to the development of other companies and businesses in the area, and encourage repopulation. Towards the decarbonisation of the planet Iberdrola also becomes Latem's energy partner with the aim of decarbonising all green aluminium production processes with renewable electricity and green hydrogen. Both companies are also making progress on an agreement with EXIOM Solar Ibérica to explore the possibility of supplying green recycled aluminium from Latem's Zamora and Leon plants for the frames of the solar panels to be manufactured at the photovoltaic panel production plant that Iberdrola is building Asturias. The aluminium sector is an energy-intensive industry that consumes 1,300 TWh of energy per year and is responsible for 2% of global emissions. Key to its decarbonisation is the growth of recycled/secondary aluminium production such as the one Latem is going to carry out in this pioneering project. Aluminium is 100% and infinitely recyclable and today only 7 out of 10 tonnes in use are recovered, hence the importance of this initiative that promotes recycling and the circular economy as a key element for sustainable development and an opportunity as a driver for climate action and energy transition. 27/06/2023Introducing Global Green Employment, the largest platform for guidance, training and green employment This morning, Iberdrola laid the virtual foundation stone of Global Green Employment (GGE) , a major green employability project that represents a new milestone in the company's commitment to a future involved with society, environmentally sustainable and essential in the fight against climate change. It is a digital platform designed to be a meeting point between those who wish to focus their future career in the green employment sector and the business and educational agents that can contribute to making it a reality. Under the umbrella of Iberdrola, those who access GGE will be approaching a truly international catalogue of job and training opportunities available to the applicant. To this end, the company is already closing agreements with universities, specialised schools, vocational training centres, companies, institutions and job offer portals. With GGE, the electricity company aspires to be a benchmark for employment guidance on green jobs, offering a real-time analysis on an updated map of the vacancies in demand in the countries where it is present , detailing the type of job, the skills required for each profile and the number of vacancies available. For Estrella Martín Segurado, Director of Global Talent, Iberdrola wants to be a leader in this labour market "because it has a lot to contribute and has already come a long way, such as the Iberdrola Universities Programme, the various chairs and scholarships we promote, the international graduate programme, our innovation centres or the Re-skilling for Employment programme, and the necessary experience to be able to state categorically that the future is green". In a context of significant unemployment figures in Europe, especially for young people or those whose jobs are disappearing due to the automation of their functions, the major challenges posed by climate change can be transformed into opportunities. It is estimated that by the turn of the decade more than five million jobs will need to be filled in what has been agreed to be called "green jobs". Iberdrola wants to open the doors of this job market to those who need it and help companies to find the best possible talent , becoming the most complete and updated green job exchange worldwide, with the help of its suppliers, but also of other companies and institutions, which will have the possibility of publishing their own offers, redirecting candidates to the channels of their choice. In this regard, the CEO of Iberdrola Spain, Mario Ruiz-Tagle, appealed to the suitability of the moment and of the sector "to build an ecosystem of talent around companies and institutions", convinced that "this platform will soon be a shared success on which Iberdrola will continue to work with passion".
