10/04/2024Iberdrola begins construction of its first photovoltaic plant in California Iberdrola, through Avangrid, its subsidiary in the United States, has begun construction of the Camino Solar project in Kern Countru (California). The photovoltaic plant will have 105,000 solar panels and, with a capacity of 57 MW, will generate clean, emission-free energy for 14,000 US homes, a population similar to that of Arcos de la Frontera in Cadiz or Sitges in Barcelona. The project supports the US energy transition , to clean energy, increasing reliability for the country's power grid, creating jobs, and boosting the local economy. Upon completion, this plant is expected to create over 100 jobs and several permanent jobs. "This first PV installation joins the six wind farms already delivering clean energy in the state of California," said Pedro Azagra, CEO of Avangrid. "This is another example of Iberdrola's commitment to developing projects that create jobs, support local communities and accelerate the transition to a decarbonised economy," he added. Camino Solar is located in an area scientifically analysed and identified as suitable for renewable energies’ development. It is located next to Iberdrola's Manzana wind farm, with a capacity of 189 MW, which came into commercial operation in 2012. Growth in the United States Iberdrola is one of the three largest renewable energy operators in the United States , with 8,800 MW of emission-free installed capacity. The company is present in 25 states and manages 170,000 kilometres of power lines through eight utilities in New York, Connecticut, Maine and Massachusetts – supplying clean energy to a population of 7 million people. The United States is the company's main investment focus within its 2024-2026 Strategic Plan, to which it will allocate €41 billion. Particularly, the country will receive 35% of the investment, equivalent to €14.35 billion. In addition, Iberdrola is the country's leading developer of offshore wind energy. On 27 March 2024, it submitted numerous proposals for new offshore wind energy in Massachusetts-Rhode Island-Connecticut. The states are expected to announce the selected projects in August 2024. The company currently has the Vineyard Wind I farm under construction. With 806 MW of capacity, it is the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the country and will supply clean and reliable energy to 400,000 homes, which is more than half the size of a city like Boston or the entire island of Palma de Mallorca. In February, the energy company announced the commissioning of the first five turbines that will supply clean energy to 30,000 homes and businesses in Massachusetts. READ MORE

02/04/2024Biden Administration gives the first green light to Iberdrola for New England Wind projects Iberdrola, through its US subsidiary Avangrid , received first approval from Biden Administration for its New England offshore wind farm. The Federal Record of Decision (ROD) together with the Construction and Operations Plan Approval (COP), expected in 2024, represent an important permitting milestone for the construction of the future farm. On February 26, 2024, New England Wind received the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS). ROD approval has been issued by the Department of Interior after years of intensive engagement with members of the local residential and fishing communities and other stakeholders. Construction and Operations Plan (COP) Approval is expected in July 2024. The New England Wind project, consisting of New England Wind 1 and New England Wind 2, has the potential to create thousands of jobs and provide approximately 2 Gigawatts of clean, reliable energy – enough to power nearly 1 million homes and businesses in the region. It is projected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 4 million US tons, or the equivalent of taking approximately 700,000 cars off the road each year during the lifespan of the project. In total it will create up to 9,200 full-time skilled jobs and bring $8 billion in direct investment to the region. In addition, the project also offers opportunities for economic growth and industrial attraction in the area, such as an assembly centre, an offshore wind training centre, a new offshore crane factory, operations and maintenance facilities in Bridgeport, Connecticut and New Bedford, among others. New England Wind 1 is exceptionally advanced for commissioning and offers extraordinary security and viability. In fact, it is the most advanced and ready offshore wind opportunity in the Northeast region. If selected, the project, which would be located about 50 kilometres south of Barnstable, Massachusetts, could begin construction in 2025 and be in commercial operation before the end of the decade, contributing to the New England state's ambitious 2030 climate goals. Leading developer of offshore wind The United States is Iberdrola's main investment focus within its 2024-2026 strategic plan , to which it will allocate €41 billion. The country will receive 35% of the investment, around €14.35 billion. Electricity grids will be the main segment of investments. Around €21.5 billion will be dedicated mainly to extending and reinforcing grids. In renewables, Iberdrola plans to invest €15.5 billion gross in the coming years, of which more than half will focus on offshore wind, totalling 3,000 MW, in the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany. Iberdrola is the leading developer of offshore wind energy in the United States. 25/03/2024Iberdrola joins the European business ambition against climate change Iberdrola joins the European business commitment in the fight against climate change. The Basque electricity company, the first in the 'old continent' and the second in the world in terms of market capitalization, has made this clear, in black and white, together with more than 100 other executives and CEOs of the main European companies in a letter that has been drafted through the 'Corporate Leaders Group' (CLG). The business statement launched last Thursday to the European Council, European Commission and members of the European Parliament calls for "a net reduction of at least 90% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2040". Its intention is that European administrations take action and act without further delay. For the time being, representatives of the CLG and prominent business leaders will meet today with the European Union's Environment and Climate Ministers who are meeting today in Brussels at the Environment Council to personally convey the shared vision of the document to them. On the agenda of the Environment Council, the ministers plan to exchange views on the Communication published by the European Commission on February 6, 2024 on the 2040 climate target. The Declaration of European business leaders seeks to contribute to the strategic focus of the future European agenda, highlighting the need to adopt an industrial policy framework that creates the necessary conditions to favor investment and improved competitiveness as well as the conditions to accelerate investments in the necessary energy infrastructures to move towards an electrified model, primarily based on renewables "We come to you as business leaders and investors, long-time supporters of strong EU climate targets. These targets provide us with a clear direction to step up action and investment to transition to more sustainable business models and rapidly reduce our emissions," they say in the letter. The business leaders understand that a strong target backed by "a smart, ambitious and coherent package of supportive policies will decarbonize our economies, drive innovation and economic opportunities for businesses across all sectors." CLG is clear that the measure will deliver the quality job creation and cost savings citizens expect, while improving the health and well-being of its population. "A well-designed target must also be consistent with just transition, where costs and benefits are fairly distributed and the most vulnerable are protected," they state in the letter. This target, based on scientific data, reflects the urgency and benefits of near-term action to drastically reduce emissions by 2040. "The 90% target should be considered the floor and not the ceiling of ambition," they say. This global industrial strategy, guided by a "competitive sustainability" approach, will enable the EU to lead the global race to develop sustainable ecosystems and industries. Eliminating fossil fuel subsidies "Fossil fuel subsidies should be eliminated, freeing up funds that could be reallocated to the development of clean technologies," the business leaders make clear in the letter. The CLG calls on the EU to establish a policy environment that phases out fossil fuels in all sectors of the economy, accelerates electrification and decarbonization of the power sector with renewables and low-carbon electricity, ensures access to energy infrastructure and large-scale implementation of energy efficiency measures in industry and buildings. They also understand that the EU must seize the opportunities offered by the circular economy and eco-design to address emissions from materials production. The companies recognize that nature restoration and sustainable land use will play a key role in increasing the EU's ability to mitigate and adapt to climate change. "The COP28 agreements have underlined the importance of accelerating emission reductions. A strong target will enable the EU to keep its climate commitments and play a leading role in phasing out fossil fuels, tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling global energy efficiency rates by 2030," they assert. 25/03/2024Iberdrola raises its contribution to the public coffers by 24% to around €9.3bn in 2023 Iberdrola consolidated its position as one of the companies that contributes most fiscally in the countries in which it operates. According to the group's fiscal transparency report, Iberdrola's commitment to public administrations resulted in a historic contribution of almost €9,3bn (€9.28 bn to be precise) in 2023, 24% more than in 2022. This figure is equivalent to more than €1m per hour. Spain is the country in which Iberdrola contributes the most, around € 3.5b, which represents an increase of 35%, according to ithe company's tax report published today. The electricity company, chaired by Ignacio Galán , has a positive impact on society, both in its commitment to a sustainable model, which promotes economy and employment, and in its fiscal contribution. Thus, in the last five years, Iberdrola contributed over €40bn to the public coffers of more than 25 countries in whitch it operates. Iberdrola's historic contribution in 2023 considers exclusively taxes affecting the income statement, 44% of its profit before taxes and Social Security. The increase in Spain was mainly due to electricity taxes, such as the 1.2% levy on sales or the hydraulic tax. Apart from the significant increase in corporate income tax, other taxes practically doubled. In Spain, taxes and charges affecting the income statement, excluding corporate income tax, represent 123% of net operating expenses, a very striking figure in relation to the same percentage (22%) in the rest of the world. Iberdrola's total contribution by country is led by Spain (€3.48bn), followed by Brazil (€2.53bn), the United States (€1.26bn), the United Kingdom (€1.12bn) and Mexico (€310m). The rest of the countries contributed €579m The company as an driver of wealth Iberdrola is aware of the importance and contribution of taxation, since the taxes paid by the Group in the countries and territories in which it has a presence create a significant increase in employment and wealth in the regions. Iberdrola faces more than 60 different taxes around the world, more than half of them in Spain. Corporate Income Tax is not the only tax levied on Iberdrola, although it is one of the most significant, amounting to €1.5bn at a global level last year. READ MORE

22/03/2024Today, Iberdrola opens its channels to participate in the General Shareholders' Meeting Today, Iberdrola has opened its channels to participate in the General Shareholders' Meeting , which is planned to be held on Friday 17 May, at first call. The company convenes the AGM (Annual General Meeting) almost two months before it is held and is deploying a wide range of channels so that its shareholders can exercise their rights. The goal is to continue offering them an innovative, accessible and close AGM to facilitate their participation. Shareholders who are members of the OLA Shareholder Club will receive a company card with a personalised QR code to enter votojunta.iberdrola.com and vote quickly and easily. If they use the cards sent by the depositary entities, they will be able to access the same link with their electronic signature or simply with their share number or their OLA Shareholder Club password. At the same time, the e-mail address Junta2024@iberdrola.es has been set up for shareholders who prefer to send their signed cards via this channel. Another option is to exercise the right to vote by telephone, by calling the toll-free number 900 100 019, or to use the traditional postal service, by sending the signed card to PO Box 1.113, 48080 Bilbao. Iberdrola is the first Spanish company to allow its shareholders to exercise their voting rights via instant messaging systems. To vote through this channel, holders of shares will simply have to send an image of their signed proxy and remote voting card by WhatsApp (to the number +34 639 000 639) or by Telegram (to the Junta Iberdrola account). In addition, the company is also offering on-site shareholders information desks in Bilbao, Madrid, Valencia, Valladolid and Zaragoza. In all of them, it will be possible to delegate, vote and collect a gift for participating, from Wednesday 8 May until Thursday 16 May. All shareholders wishing to exercise their proxy or remote voting rights must do so through one of the aforementioned channels before 23:59 on 16 May, the day before the Meeting. Shareholders and proxy holders who wish to attend telematically must register between 08:00 and 10:15 a.m. on 17 May (the scheduled date of the Meeting). In order to speed up their registration on the day of the Meeting, they may register in advance on the Participation Portal on the website. Those who prefer to attend in person must reserve a seat through the Shareholders' Office or the website before 10:15 a.m. on the day of the Meeting. Commitment to participation In addition to the gift to be collected at the shareholders information desks, there will be a draw for 30 electric bicycles for those who participate via the corporate website or the telephone channel. And, to encourage participation, the company has proposed, for the third consecutive year, an attendance dividend of €0.005 gross per share (one euro gross per 200 shares). If a quorum of at least 70% of the share capital is reached and the Meeting approves this incentive, the company will pay this amount to all its shareholders entitled to participate in the meeting. Iberdrola is the only Ibex 35 company that rewards its shareholders in this way at the company's most important event. The engagement dividend is part of a concept of a more participatory, sustainable and unrestricted AGM. All shareholders can participate by virtue of being shareholders, provided that they have at least one share registered in their name on 10 May. Permanent Meeting In addition to participation in the AGM, the Company promotes permanent information and continuous involvement of shareholders throughout the year. This is thanks to iniciatives such as the contact channels of the Shareholders' Office and the interactive application for members of the OLA Shareholders' Club. In addition, on the occasion of the call of the Meeting, the immersive Shareholders' Month space will be set up on the corporate website, which will include different content such as interviews with members of the management team, as well as links to the legally required documentation and the channels for participation in the AGM. As a novelty, this year it is also planned to organise face-to-face meetings with management staff on dates close to the AGM, which will be announced on the corporate website. READ MORE

21/03/2024Iberdrola has planted over 3 million trees and will reach 5 by the end of the year Iberdrola is committed to the conservation and restoration of forest ecosystems, which is why it created the Trees Programme, with Biodiversity and Forest Ecosystems, in 2020 with the goal of promoting the conservation and planting of 20 million trees by 2030. Since its launch, it has promoted the planting of 3.4 million trees, and by the end of the year the figure will reach five million. "The Trees Programme has its main focus on the protection and promotion of biodiversity – where forests play a major role. But without neglecting the social aspects and the fight against climate change that it can offer. Only in Spain, it has promoted the planting of more than 932,000 trees in conservation and ecosystem restoration projects on over 900 hectares", pointed out Emilio Tejedor, Director of Iberdrola's Trees Programme. In the rest of Europe, more than 457,000 trees have been planted. In this sense, it is worth mentioning the Támega hydroelectric complex (Portugal), with more than 377,000 trees; and Greece, with almost 75,000 trees planted as part of onshore wind developments. In Brazil, in recent years, actions have been carried out in the Permanent Preservation Areas for conservation and regeneration on over 8,975 hectares and for monitoring and conservation on over 18,400 hectares. In total, more than one million trees have been planted. Among last year's actions, it is worth highlighting the continuation of the creation of the Biodiversity Corridor, with more than 3,000 hectares, between the forested areas of the Iguaçu National Park - PNI with the Area of Direct Influence of the UHE Baixo Iguaçu, in the vicinity of the reservoir. To date, conservation work has been carried out on 1,135 hectares and more than 110,000 trees have been planted. In addition, work has been expanded in the development of the Corumbá and Telespires Permanent Protection Areas where more than 50,000 trees have been planted by 2023; in addition to the 54,800 trees on 56.6 hectares in the Luzia Solar Complex. The network businesses of Neoenergia, the company's Brazilian subsidiary, carried out forest restoration actions in 2023, planting approximately 7,200 trees of native species in São Paulo and Pernambuco, respectively. More than 890,000 trees have been planted in the UK – mainly as part of the Kilgallioch Onshore Wind Farm (Scotland). Over 1,600 trees were planted to compensate for the land occupied by the East Anglia One offshore wind farm's onshore cable. In Mexico, the planting figure is close to 70,000 trees. Maintenance continued on the more than 25 hectares planted in 2019 at the La Venta III wind farm; and the 38 hectares at the Escobedo combined cycle plant (Northeast), where, to date, more than 23,500 trees have been planted at this site. Reforestations through the volunteer programme As part of the Global Volunteering Programme promoted in all countries, several reforestations have been carried out by volunteer employees and their families. "Iberdrola's social and environmental commitment is fully shared by the people who work at our company and who year after year dedicate their time to helping, contributing to well-being and social progress, as well as to preserving the environment and sustainability", says Begoña Barberá, Head of Diversity and Social Projects at Iberdrola. Thanks to these initiatives, volunteers have planted almost 30,000 trees in Spain, 25,000 in Brazil and more than 15,000 in Mexico. In the United Kingdom, the 'Trees For Life' project continues, where this year 400 trees were planted in the grove owned by ScottishPower, Iberdrola's Scottish subsidiary. In Spain, since 2008 we have been collaborating with Fundación Lurgaia in the recovery of the native forest of Bermeo and Muxica in the Biosphere Reserve of Urdaibai, Bizkaia, with the planting of 10,000 trees of 22 different species. In Madrid, volunteers are recovering one of its largest ‘lungs’, the Casa de Campo, after the damage caused by Filomena storm, more than 4,000 trees have been planted; and in Solosancho, Ávila, more than 1,300 trees have been reforested to recover land affected by the Navalacruz fire. In total, the company has planted 3.4 million trees to date. READ MORE
