12/11/2024 - 20:41 UTC +01:00Valencia, protagonist at the Iberdrola's Supplier of the Year Awards Iberdrola today presented its Supplier of the Year Awards in Spain 2024, a recognition whose goal is to praise the work of Spanish companies and emphasise their role in achieving Iberdrola's strategic projects wherever it does business. This year, where Valencia was the protagonist, the awards went to nine partner companies that stand out for their commitment to the company. With these awards, Iberdrola recognises the importance of creating an ecosystem of suppliers working towards the same goals. All the companies recognised share values such as safety, innovation, job creation, diversity, digitalisation and sustainability. They also work with Iberdrola on its strategy towards a decarbonised economy, based on its investments in renewables and increasingly smart distribution grids , large-scale storage projects and its commitment to innovative solutions for its customers. The presentation of these awards held this afternoon at the Iberdrola Tower in Bilbao was presided over by Ignacio Galán , Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, accompanied by the CEO of Iberdrola España, Mario Ruiz-Tagle, and the Global Director of People and Services and Institutional Representative of Iberdrola España in the Basque Country, Asís Canales. The event was also attended by representatives from the supplier companies Iberdrola works with in Spain . Ignacio Galán began by conveying his support and that of the Iberdrola family to the companies affected by last week's tragedy in Valencia. "Specialists from all over Spain, from the Basque Country, Extremadura, Madrid, Castilla y León, La Rioja, Castilla La Mancha.... More than 500 people got to work instantly. Thanks to our suppliers and our teams, we’ve managed to turn the lights on for many people affected in record time," he said. In 2023, Iberdrola made purchases related to equipment, materials, works and services for more than 2,602 million euros from more than 4,500 suppliers in Spain. In Spain, 91% of those purchases were from local suppliers, many of them SMEs. That percentage exceeds the group's average worldwide. During the first 10 months of 2024, the volume invoiced to suppliers in Spain amounted to nearly €1.950 B, figures that clearly illustrate the company's commitment to the development of local suppliers and the creation of indirect jobs. According to the 2024–2026 outlook, investments will exceed €41 B in three years. In that time, around 30,000 new hires will be made, which will increase sustained employment in suppliers to over 500,000 jobs worldwide. Of this figure, more than 125,000 will be in Spain. The Iberdrola Supplier of the Year Awards 2024 in Spain consist of nine categories that recognise companies for their focus on innovation, digitisation and their use of emerging technologies, diversity, equality and inclusion, for their creation of jobs and diverse job opportunities, for their sustainability and contribution to the SDGs, for their leading role in the energy transition and for their quality of service. Awards for nine companies The award in the Equipment Manufacturer category went to Valencia-based Power Electronics. The Energy Transition award went to BCare from Vitoria-Gasteiz, a start-up out of the CIC Energigune, the Basque Government's energy storage research centre, for its innovative proposal and its commitment to all the projects it works on. They supply the new lithium batteries (LFP, lithium-iron-phosphate) for transformer substations and i-DE grid cut-off devices. In the Job creation for everyone category, Iberdrola recognised the Spanish subsidiary of the French group Eiffage, whose headquarters are located in Albacete, for being the company that has offered the most internships and jobs in Iberdrola– Unicef partnership, which offers training, internships and employment related to the energy transition to vulnerable young people. Eiffage won Best Supplier of the Year in 2019. In the Sustainability and SDGs category, Faramax from Cáceres was recognised for its value creation in Extremadura. Its production area and manufacturing capacity has more than doubled in the last four years, creating direct and indirect jobs and promoting technical training in Extremadura and Castilla y León through agreements with universities, vocational training centres and chambers of commerce. It also participates in social initiatives such as the reunification of Ukrainian families. The effort it has put in in recent years should also be mentioned. After an unsustainable 2021, it rolled out an improvement plan and now has a score of 69. In the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion category, Iberdrola has awarded the A Coruña-based company Mecanizados Acebrón for its integration of women at the highest levels of executive responsibilities. Its CEO, Rebeca Acebrón, is also vice-president of Asime (Association of Metal Industries and Associated Technologies of Galicia). The company is a regular Iberdrola supplier of very special large steel parts, such as gates, cofferdams, pipes and supports for hydraulic installations. It also stands out for rigorously complying with deadlines and for carrying out a great deal of work to support the ecological transition in multiple public forums and business associations in Galicia. The winner in the Innovation, digitalisation and emerging technologies category was Innomerics from Madrid. This SME develops software and instrumentation and specialised engineering services. Its innovative technologies include digital twins for green hydrogen, heat networks and hydraulic pumping. Iberdrola has awarded the prize in the category of Ethics and Compliance to the Biscayan company Idom. The business has made amazing progress in recent years in terms of ethics and compliance, gaining certification in the area of competition. Last but not least, the Best Supplier of the Year Award went to Ametel. The Special 2024 Award went to the Sevillian company for its commitment, flexibility and predisposition to looking for solutions together. Ametel is highly committed to health and safety and plays a key role in the completion of the jobs on which it works, as is the case of the Plan Madrid Agreement, including the dismantling of complex lines in the Casa de Campo area and A-5 highway. It is always available with its resources and always has an amazing proactive attitude. READ MORE

12/11/2024 - 12:28 UTC +01:00ScottishPower seals £1BN offshore wind turbine deal with Siemens Gamesa The turbine blades for ScottishPower’s £4 billion East Anglia TWO offshore windfarm will be built in Hull after the green energy company formalised a turbine supply agreement with Siemens Gamesa worth more than £1 billion. The agreement will see Siemens Gamesa supply 64 of its flagship SG 14-236 DD* offshore wind turbines, which have a rotor diameter of 236 metres – almost as tall as the observation deck at the Shard – for ScottishPower’s third offshore wind project in the southern North Sea. Situated almost 33km off the Suffolk coat, East Anglia TWO will have an installed capacity up to 960MW – enough to power the equivalent of almost one million homes with green electricity. The 115 metres-long blades will be manufactured at Siemens Gamesa’s offshore wind blade factory in Hull, which now employs around 1,300 people after recruiting more than 600 new employees over the last 12 months. The contract award comes just after ScottishPower announced it is doubling its investment in the UK – from £12 billion to £24 billion – between 2024 and 2028. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “Our mission to make Britain a clean energy superpower will fire up our industrial heartlands and break down barriers to growth in our hard-working towns and cities. “It will strengthen our national security - protecting our children and grandchildren from the climate crisis, and impact this will have on their future prosperity. “By acting decisively and early, the UK has an opportunity to lead the world in the industries of the future — working in partnership with businesses like ScottishPower and Siemens Energy — creating real energy security, cutting energy bills and building jobs and supply chains in the UK. “But we can’t move alone - and at COP I will lead efforts to protect Britain from climate change by also working with other countries to accelerate the global clean transition to tackle the causes at its root.” Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said: “This investment is a huge vote of confidence in the UK’s growing renewables sector and will power our clean energy future – supporting skilled jobs and green growth in Hull and beyond. “Offshore wind is the backbone of our clean power 2030 mission; every new turbine in our waters helps us boost energy security, protect consumers, and tackle the climate crisis. “We are making the UK a clean energy superpower, backing industry to build cleaner, global supply chains, and to drive investment into our country.” Keith Anderson, CEO of ScottishPower, said: “Today is tangible proof of the importance of Britain’s Clean Power Mission – our East Anglia projects are delivering UK jobs, UK supply chain contracts and UK green energy. “Getting more projects like East Anglia TWO off the blocks quicker will turbo-boost the UK’s supply chain, giving companies like Siemens Gamesa the confidence to invest in facilities like this blade factory in Hull. “Britain’s clean power targets are achievable but demanding. We’ve doubled our investment and are ready to play our part with Government as it gets barriers out the way to build more projects like this, alongside the electricity networks needed to ferry green, homegrown power across the country.” Siemens Gamesa is the fully owned wind business of Siemens Energy with more than 6,000 employees in the UK. Darren Davidson, UK and Ireland Vice President for Siemens Energy and Siemens Gamesa said: “The UK is the first leading industrial country to simultaneously phase out coal power and be a leader in offshore wind. If we’re to achieve our net zero targets, it’s mission critical this momentum is maintained. As well as delivering the blades to power the UK’s energy transition, our factory in Hull is acting as a catalyst for economic growth and green jobs across the region.” East Anglia TWO’s success in the new UK Government’s Contracts for Difference Allocation Round 6 (AR6) in September 2024 comes 14 years after the seabed rights for the windfarm were awarded by the last Labour government under former Prime Minister Gordon Brown and when Ed Miliband was previously Energy Secretary. Getting projects like East Anglia TWO through the system quicker was a key takeaway at the UK Government’s recent International Investment Summit*, where Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the country needs to “rip out the bureaucracy that blocks investment” for clean energy projects. East Anglia is the heart of ScottishPower’s offshore wind operations in the UK, with East Anglia ONE in operation; East Anglia THREE under construction; and supply chain being put in place for East Anglia TWO. Collectively, these windfarms – all of them equipped with Siemens Gamesa turbines – will produce enough clean, green electricity to power the equivalent of more than three million homes. READ MORE

11/11/2024 - 09:27 UTC +01:00Iberdrola obtains environmental permit for its first repowering in Spain Iberdrola has taken another step towards the energy transition and has obtained the environmental permit for its first repowering in Spain, in Castilla-La Mancha, at the Molar del Molinar wind farm. It is also continuing to repower another onshore wind farm in the same region, which will reduce the number of wind turbines installed in the region by 117 and increase the energy production of the facilities by an average of 30%. The machines used in the repowering will have a unit power that is up to six times that of the first wind turbines built in Spain more than two decades ago. This is what repowering is all about: maximising energy production and increasing the efficiency of wind farms. Old turbines will be replaced with more advanced and powerful ones. These will produce more energy than the old ones, so fewer units will be needed. You can read the full story at Iberdrola España's Communications Room. READ MORE

05/11/2024 - 15:00 UTC +01:00The offshore wind projects won by Iberdrola this summer will mean €3B in purchases from Basque companies Ignacio Galán , Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, today held his first meeting with the Lehendakari, President of the Basque Government, Imanol Pradales, in Vitoria-Gasteiz. The meeting, at the headquarters of the Basque Government (Lehendakaritza), is part of the regular meetings between the Executive Chairman of the company and the authorities of the Basque institutions. The Executive Chairman of Iberdrola has conveyed to the Lehendakari the company's firm commitment to the Basque Country. This is reflected in the recent orders that Iberdrola has placed with Basque suppliers to carry out the offshore wind projects it recently won in the United Kingdom and the United States, which will involve a combined investment of more than €10 B. This is the case of its East Anglia 2 project, which will have a capacity of 963 MW, and for which orders worth €1.6 B have been placed with companies such as Siemens Gamesa and Euskal Forging. It also has a new offshore development in the United States, New England Wind 1, with a capacity of 791 MW, and it is in very advanced negotiations to place orders for an additional €1.5 B with Basque companies. These collaborations reflect Iberdrola's long-standing ties with the Basque Country, where it has spent decades promoting the revitalisation of industry and the improvement of the competitiveness of its business fabric, as well as the creation of quality jobs in cutting-edge industries. Iberdrola's global growth has become a driving force for the internationalisation of hundreds of Basque companies, which have been demonstrating for years their ability to provide the highest quality, highly competitive products and services all over the world. Supply contracts linked to the energy transition are especially noteworthy, such as the flanges for the foundations of the company's offshore wind farms, manufactured by Euskal Forging, the AC integration system for the energy storage systems with batteries for six photovoltaic plants (Almaraz I, Almaraz II, Andévalo, Revilla Vallejera), to be supplied by Jema Energy and Ingeteam, and the stators for Villarino, by Ingeteam Indar Machines. In 2023, Iberdrola once again surpassed its record for its socio-economic contribution to the Basque Country, with an impact of 3.7% of the Basque GDP in the year in terms of investments, purchases, salaries and tax contributions. The purchases made by the company in 2023 from 500 suppliers in the Basque Country, including companies such as Haizea Wind, Ingeteam, Ormazabal, Arteche, EDS Ingeniería y Montajes, Lizelan, Boslan, and Idom, already support a total of 30,000 jobs – in addition to its own 1,800 jobs – according to a report by PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
