19/11/2024 - 08:08 UTC +01:00Iberdrola launches first green bond issue by a Spanish company in Australia Iberdrola continues to diversify its sources of financing. The company chaired by Ignacio Galán today issued green bonds for AU$ 750 M –about €460 M–. It is the first non-financial Spanish company to issue in this market, known as a 'kangaroo'. The issue was in two tranches – AU$ 350 M (€215 M) for a six-year term and AU$ 400 M (€245 M) for a 10-year term – with demand reaching AU$ 2.1 B in aggregate, implying it was oversubscribed by 2.8. Thanks to strong interest from investors , who once again support the strategy of Europe's largest electricity company by market capitalisation, the weighted average cost of the operation was set at less than 5.65%, for an average life of more than 7 years. This issue attracted the interest of more than 80 investors with a long-term vision, including Asian investors in addition to Australians. Those committed to the ESG had a relevant presence, thanks to the green nature of the operation, which will finance future investments in the renewable business in the country. The company's ability to access the financing markets is reaffirmed with this transaction, as well as its strategy of diversifying in the capital markets as market weather improves. In addition to the operations carried out in the Euromarket (in January, July and September), Iberdrola is now the only European utility to have operated in 2024 in the Swiss (June), British (October) and Australian (November) markets, which, together with a private placement in Norwegian kroner in September, positions the Group before a wide range of financing possibilities in capital markets. The Australian transaction comes a month after results were presented for the first nine months of the year, where Iberdrola reported a net profit of €5,471 M and set its net profit growth at 14% – before extraordinary items – for the year as a whole. The banks involved in the placement were Deutsche Bank, Mizuho, ANZ, Sumitomo and MUFG. Today's issue is the seventh public transaction in the market so far in 2024. The first was the €700 M hybrid bond issued in January, the second, in the Swiss market for 335 M francs at the end of June, the third, the €750 M senior bond issued in July , the fourth took place in August, when Iberdrola placed $525 M (€490 M) through its US subsidiary , the fifth was on 23 September, when it placed €2.15 B in its largest-ever senior debt issue , and the sixth just a month ago when the company closed its first green bond in pounds sterling in the last 15 years for 500 M (€595 M) with strong backing from investors. International confidence The market's confidence in Iberdrola is solid. In addition to debt issues, a few days ago the electricity company signed a 120 M loan with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to develop energy innovation projects. It has also extended its alliance with the World Bank with a 300 M green loan for renewable projects in emerging countries. In addition, it signed a €500 M green syndicated loan with Cesce coverage with ICO, Sabadell and HSBC, and in the first quarter of 2024 it signed another €700 M green loan with the European Investment Bank to build up electricity grids in Spain. At the end of December 2023, the company signed its largest credit line in history for €5.3 B with 33 international banks . The cost of this operation was at the most competitive levels for Iberdrola, with prices similar to those of 2019, and the operation was oversubscribed by more than 40%, demonstrating the bank’s strong commitment to Europe's leading utility by capitalisation. This financial strategy complements the historic investment plan launched by the company in March 2024. This roadmap, the implementation of which is a year ahead of schedule, aims to drive the economy’s electrification, with a strong focus on electricity grids and renewables. READ MORE

17/11/2024 - 15:50 UTC +01:00Ignacio Galán: "Electrification is the key to security of supply, resilience and better resource use " The Executive Chairman of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, stressed at the Climate Summit held in Baku since Monday that COP29 comes at the right time to make decisions and adapt infrastructures to the possible consequences of climate change . In the words of Ignacio Galán , "We need more security of supply, more resilience and a better use of our natural resources and the best way is to invest in electrification, creating, at the same time, opportunities in reindustrialisation, competitiveness, and job creation". The Executive Chairman of Iberdrola emphasised this message right after seeing first-hand in the Valencian Community the dramatic consequences caused by the severe weather event that hit Spain more than a week ago. Galán, who has participated in all the Climate Summits held since Copenhagen in 2009, spoke at a high-level event "Increasing energy storage and grids as critical enablers to deliver COP29 Action Agenda", organised with the Global Renewable Alliance. During the event, Galán also wished to support the COP Presidency's objective of increasing energy storage sixfold by 2030 and extending electricity grids in line with the scenario for achieving the global objective of net zero emissions. Iberdrola considers these investments to be an essential pillar of its business strategy . Sixty percent of the investment plan (more than €27 B in 2024–2026) is dedicated to expanding and reinforcing the grids in the US, the UK, Brazil and Spain. These are key decisions to ensure the integration of new renewable capacity into the electricity system and to absorb the increase in demand from new uses: electric vehicles, heat pumps and data centres, among others. Electricity grid assets will grow by 38% to €54 B, with €15 B in transmission grids. Of this asset base, 85% has closed frameworks for the coming years. Iberdrola, which will participate in more than twenty events at this COP, will focus on the energy transition in the midst of a complex geopolitical context and will invest in working with all the agents involved globally in accelerating the energy transition and climate action. Accelerate in grids and storage The “Increasing energy storage and grids as critical enablers to deliver COP29 Action Agenda” event supported one of the priorities of the COP29 Presidency, which wanted to place energy infrastructures at the centre of the conversations and activities, launching the Global Commitment on Energy Storage and Grids. This initiative aims to set a global target of increasing installed energy storage capacity to 1,500 GW by 2030, six times the 2022 levels. This is a key target to advance the agreement reached at COP28 to triple global renewable energy capacity over the same time horizon and in line with an ambitious update to the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The event was attended by the most relevant organisations in the global energy field, from the International Energy Agency (IEA), whose Executive Director, Fatih Birol, highlighted the need to align investments in grids and storage with renewable investments to meet the 1.5ºC target, to the Energy Transitions Commission, whose Chairman, Adair Turner, urged accelerating the electrification of the economy and investing in grids and storage as fundamental vectors to meet climate objectives. 15/11/2024 - 12:00 UTC +01:00Iberdrola gives new wings to its wind farms with wind measurement formulas for its turbines Iberdrola has launched a challenge to develop new wind-measurement formulas through its startup programme Perseo . The solution can comprise both traditional and state-of-the-art sensors and must include wind-speed and wind-direction measurements, must be effectively deployed at several positions at a wind farm, and must be able to fulfil a complete measurement campaign on several turbines. The ease of installation will be assessed as well as the reliability and accuracy of the measurements. Monitoring wind farm conditions and performance is fundamental to understanding how variable wind conditions determine the electrical output of turbines. That is why Iberdrola, which has 400 wind farms in operation and more than 15,000 wind turbines, is taking this step. The prize will be the development of a project to implement the solution in one of Iberdrola's operational wind farms. What’s more, the winner may also be offered the opportunity to scale the solution through commercial agreements and the possibility of investing in the participating company or in the winning solution may be considered. The presentation deadline is on 1 December. Iberdrola is the world's leading electricity company in terms of wind-power capacity, with some 23,000 MW installed worldwide. Onshore wind power accounts for approximately 21,000 MW, 37% of the electricity company's total capacity, and it generated 33,000 GWh in the first nine months of the year, more than half of its total renewable production, which stood at 63,300 GWh. Offshore wind power is one of the main growth drivers of Europe's largest electricity company by stock market value, with a 47.5% increase in the last 12 months to almost 2,400 MW of capacity, thanks mainly to its new wind farms in France and Germany. Key to growth Iberdrola's plan is to allocate some €15.5 billion to the development of renewable projects between the current financial year and 2026, including €5 billion contributed by partners. Half of this amount will be earmarked for offshore wind power in the United States, the United Kingdom, France and Germany. In fact, between January and September it has installed some 800 MW of this technology, mainly through the Saint Brieuc, France, and Baltic Eagle, Germany, wind farms, reaching almost 2,400 MW. With this progress, the offshore wind projects foreseen in the 24–26 strategic plan are already secured and under construction, and 4,800 MW of new capacity is expected to be operational by 2026. Driving force behind energy startups Since its creation in 2008, Perseo has invested more than €200 million in startups that develop innovative technologies and business models, focusing on those that improve the sustainability of the energy sector through greater electrification and decarbonisation of the economy. The programme has focused its actions on analysing business opportunities and technological collaboration with startups and emerging companies around the world. READ MORE
