03/12/2024 - 18:23 UTC +01:00Galán meets President Lula in Brasilia and reaffirms commitment to Brazil During a meeting this morning in Brasilia with the country's president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Galán confirmed his commitment to Brazil's energy transition. The meeting was also attended by the Ministers of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, and of the Executive Office of the President of Brazil, Rui Costa, as well as the CEO of Neoenergia, Eduardo Capelastegui. Neoenergia , Iberdrola's subsidiary in the country, plans to invest more than €7 B – 45 B reais – between 2024 and 2028 in Brazil thanks to the regulatory framework for electricity grids . In fact, the distribution concessions will be renewed in the first half of next year, reaffirming the stability and predictability of the Brazilian electricity sector. The renewal will be for a 30-year term at no additional cost, according to what was published. Galán also conveyed to Lula his commitment to COP30, to be held in Brazil in 2025. Firm commitment to the country Iberdrola, through Neoenergia, is the leading distributor in Brazil, supplying electricity to more than 40 M Brazilians. The electricity company has almost 730,000 kilometres of power lines in Brazil, and is present in 18 states and in the federal district. Iberdrola's Brazilian subsidiary has five electricity distributors: Neoenergia Coelba (BA), Neoenergia Pernambuco (PE), Neoenergia Cosern (RN), Neoenergia Elektro (SP/MS) and Neoenergia Brasília (DF). Iberdrola also has around 4,500 MW of installed capacity in Brazil, 3,900 MW of which is renewable. Its regulated network asset base in the country stood at €10.3 B at the end of the third quarter, representing 27% of the total, behind only the United Kingdom and the United States (€13.7 B). The Iberdrola subsidiary has total assets of more than €16 B, has a total of almost 16,000 employees and has taken on more than 7,000 new employees in the last four years. 03/12/2024 - 17:46 UTC +01:00Iberdrola wins award for best business transaction for the sale of combined cycle plants in Mexico David Mesonero, Iberdrola's Director of Corporate Development, received the award for the best business transaction for the sale of combined cycle plants in Mexico from El Economista, which recognised the management of the sale of combined cycle gas plants in Mexico for $6.2 B . The transaction involved the sale of 13 generation plants with an installed capacity of 8,539 MW, of which 99% were combined cycle gas plants and 87% plants operating under the Independent Power Producer regime, with contracts with the CFE. The transaction involved the disposal of 55% of the company's business in the country in terms of EBITDA, although the electricity company maintains all its contracts with private customers in the country. Iberdrola also has a portfolio of renewable projects in Mexico worth $6 B. On 2 December, the newspaper El Economista held its 14th 'La Noche de la Economía' awards, which each year recognises the most relevant projects in the Spanish economic and financial sector. The Minister of Economy, Trade and Enterprise, Carlos Cuerpo, was in charge of putting the finishing touch on the evening. During the celebration, David Mesonero acknowledged the efforts and dedication of Iberdrola's entire Corporate Development team. "In just two financial years, this team has signed more than 34 corporate transactions, worth more than €17B in enterprise value attributable to the company, and has allowed us to bring our Strategic Plan for Partnerships and Asset Turnover forward by two years. This award motivates us to continue with our mission to contribute to a more sustainable and efficient future," he said. This event was originally scheduled for 5 November but, out of solidarity and respect for the victims and those affected by the cold drop, the newspaper decided to postpone it to this new date. 03/12/2024 - 15:43 UTC +01:00West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm celebrates a decade of clean energy generation Iberdrola, through its UK subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables, is celebrating a decade of experience in offshore wind energy on the 10th anniversary of the commissioning of the West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm. The 389 MW plant was commissioned in 2014 with 108 wind turbines in the Irish Sea, some 14 kilometres off the coast of Cumbria. Over the past ten years it has produced enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of around 340,000 homes a year.
