Europe's largest sustainable venue for leisure and cultural events, Iberdrola Music , came alive with performances from leading Spanish and international artists. Opening the festival, Lola Bozzano, Álvaro de Luna, Ana Mena, Manuel Carrasco and Lenny Kravitz delivered a series of standout performances, creating an electric atmosphere and a strong connection with the audience throughout the day. Cristina Boscá, co-host of Anda Ya on LOS40, hosted the festival and introduced each act, while fellow LOS40 presenter and DJ David Álvarez kept the energy high with music sets between performances. Festivalgoers also enjoyed a wide range of entertainment throughout the day. The event also had a strong charitable purpose. Proceeds from ticket sales will fund social projects led by five non-profit organisations: the Spanish Association Against Cancer, Action Against Hunger, Fundación Tu Techo, Betania and Fundación Integra. A nationwide celebration The Iberdrola Music Festival in Madrid has become one of the flagship events of the 125 Light Years programme, which celebrates the company's anniversary throughout 2026 with events across Spain. The Madrid festival follows the celebration held in Bilbao on 12 June , where nearly 40,000 people enjoyed performances by Juanes, Antonio Orozco, Rigoberta Bandini and Süne, culminating in Spain's largest-ever drone show, powered entirely by renewable energy. The music programme will continue in Valencia on 28 November, with performances by Estopa and Mafalda Cardenal. Alongside the music festivals, the 125 Light Years programme includes exhibitions, community events and the illumination of iconic landmarks. Together, these initiatives celebrate Iberdrola's 125-year history of innovation, its commitment to people and its role in driving progress through electrification, while looking ahead to the future and strengthening its ties with the communities where it operates. 25/06/2026 - 16:20 UTC +02:00Iberdrola inaugurates Fénix, its largest photovoltaic plant in Italy with 243 MW Iberdrola has inaugurated its largest photovoltaic plant in Italy in Sicily. With 243 MW, Fénix is already in operation and its annual production is close to 400,000 MWh, enough to cover the equivalent consumption of more than 140,000 homes. Located between the municipalities of Centuripe, Paternò and Belpasso, in the provinces of Enna and Catania, Fénix reinforces the country's clean and indigenous generation capacity. The facility, whose construction has been carried out by more than 500 professionals at the peak, has more than 413,000 bifacial photovoltaic modules and is connected to the electricity system through 26 kilometres of medium voltage lines and 9 kilometres of high voltage lines. This is a key infrastructure to boost the electrification of the productive fabric: most of its production is committed through long-term purchase agreements (PPAs ) with top-tier Italian companies, which helps to stabilise its energy costs, guarantee security of supply and strengthen its competitiveness. The opening ceremony was attended by Hugh Elliott, executive president of Iberdrola Energía Internacional, and Valerio Faccenda, country manager of Iberdrola Italia, as well as institutional representatives, including Miguel Ángel Fernández-Palacios Martínez, Spanish ambassador to Italy, as well as regional and municipal authorities. His appointment recognises Sainz Armada’s role in Iberdrola’s sustained growth and international consolidation, which have always been consistent with maintaining financial strength and a policy of increasing dividends. Over almost 25 years as CFO, José Sainz has also become a leading figure in the sector in the eyes of the financial markets. With this appointment, Iberdrola España will now also be chaired by a Group executive , in line with the model already in place at other sub-holding companies such as ScottishPower (United Kingdom), Avangrid (United States) and Neoenergia (Brazil), chaired by Ignacio S. Galán, and Iberdrola Energía Internacional, chaired by Hugh Elliott. A key figure in Iberdrola’s growth and financial strength José Sainz Armada (Madrid, 1959) holds a degree in Law and Business Administration from ICADE and an MBA from INSEAD, and has had an extensive career in the financial and energy sectors. Before joining Iberdrola in 2002, he held senior positions at J.P. Morgan, Argentaria and BBVA. He has served as the Group’s Chief Financial Officer for almost 25 years and has been named the best CFO in the sector in Europe on several occasions at awards such as those organised by Institutional Investor, Extel and IR Magazine. 25/06/2026Iberdrola and bp advance green hydrogen development as a key enabler of electrification Iberdrola España, the Iberdrola Group's subsidiary in Spain , and bp have received approval from Spain’s Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, through the Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving (IDAE), to reallocate up to €211 million in funding from the Hy2USE IPCEI programme to their project in Castellón. The funding will allow the companies to explore opportunities to expand renewable hydrogen production at bp’s refinery in Castellón. The project is part of the strategic partnership between Iberdrola and bp to develop new energy solutions that help industrial customers replace natural gas with renewable energy produced in Spain. Renewable hydrogen could also play an important role in decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as ceramics and chemicals, further strengthening its contribution to the energy transition. The facility, which also involves the Energy Technology Institute (ITE) in Valencia and has secured an additional €15 million through the NextGenerationEU programme, is expected to begin producing renewable hydrogen before the end of this year. By 2026, it is set to become the largest operational green hydrogen plant in Spain. The Shutler project, located in Gilliam County, Oregon, has an installed capacity of 41 megawatts (MW) and a storage capacity of 82 megawatt-hours (MWh). Shutler will help to strengthen the stability of the electricity grid in the north-west of the country, on the Pacific coast, where Avangrid — the Group’s US subsidiary — already has 3,000 MW of generation capacity. The project forms part of Iberdrola’s strategy to implement solutions that facilitate the integration of renewable energy and improve the system’s resilience against a backdrop of growing electricity demand. The project will enable energy to be stored during periods of low consumption or high renewable generation and released when necessary, optimising the energy system and promoting a real-time balance between supply and demand. This type of infrastructure is becoming increasingly important in the context of growing electrification. The award was announced by the president of the Atapuerca Foundation, Antonio Miguel Méndez Pozo, during the organisation’s Board of Trustees meeting, at which the other winners for this year were also revealed. Alongside Sánchez Galán, Queen Mother Sofía has been honoured with the Emiliano Aguirre Prize, whilst the anthropologist Carlos Peretto will receive the Prize for Scientific Achievement. 23/06/2026 - 16:20 UTC +02:00Iberdrola is making progress in modernising New York’s electricity grid with a new power transmission project New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG), a distribution company owned by Avangrid, subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in the United States , has completed major upgrades to around 13 miles of transmission lines in Allegany and Steuben counties, New York State. The project, known as Line 932, was completed three months ahead of schedule and under the initial budget, resulting in savings of over $2 million for customers. Furthermore, it was the first project to be completed under NYSEG’s Powering New York programme, an initiative aimed at increasing the reliability and capacity of the grid and supporting the state’s energy objectives. The project strengthens the reliability and resilience of the local electricity grid by replacing 58 ageing structures along a 12.8-mile stretch of line. These improvements will also enable progress to be made on the installation of a power flow control device near the Bennett substation in Hornell, with the aim of regulating voltage more efficiently and increasing the transmission system’s capacity. Upgrading this infrastructure will also help facilitate the connection of existing and future generation facilities, supporting the energy and economic development of New York State.
