The company has been awarded a long-term contract from the state government for the Kingswood battery (100 MW) and has officially opened the Smithfield facility (65 MW), with the assistance of the state's Energy Minister, Penelope Sharpe. Both projects strengthen the integration of renewables, increase grid flexibility, improve availability and efficiency of supply and contribute, in general, to a more self-sufficient, secure, competitive and sustainable energy system. The Kingswood project will reach 1,080 MWh of storage. It will be able to supply energy for at least eight consecutive hours and supply some 65,000 homes at peak demand times. The New South Wales Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure recommended approval on 22 December 2025 and the project continues to be assessed by the Independent Planning Commission. This initiative has been selected for a Long-Term Energy Service Agreement ( LTESA) from the Government of New South Wales, within the sixth round of auctions, within the framework of the State Executive's Roadmap for Electric Infrastructure. In addition, Iberdrola Australia has inaugurated the Smithfield battery (130 MWh of storage) in the west of Sydney. The project has been completed ahead of schedule and also has an LTESA contract, awarded in round 2 of the same state program. It can supply 20,000 homes. Australia is a strategic market for the Iberdrola Group, which is committed to energy storage as a key element in accelerating electrification and strengthening reliability of supply and price stability. Its subsidiary Iberdrola Australia has established itself as one of the country's leading renewable energy operators, with more than 2,000 MW of generation capacity in operation or under construction, supplying clean energy to approximately 400 commercial and industrial customers. As part of its 2025-2028 strategic plan, Iberdrola foresees total investments of more than €1 billion in Australia, a country with a AAA credit rating, focused on key businesses and markets that offer stability and predictability. 03/02/2026Iberdrola commissions two new power plants in the United States Iberdrola has brought two new power plants in Wasco County, Oregon, into commercial operation through Avangrid, its U.S. subsidiary . The facilities — Daybreak Solar, with 189 MWdc, and Bakeoven Solar, with 80 MWdc — together add 269 MWdc of new locally generated capacity at a time of growing electricity demand across the country. These new generation facilities , which are already supplying electricity to the local utility Portland General Electric (PGE), participate in a state programme designed to maximise access to newly built energy for large municipal, industrial and commercial customers, such as the technology company Intel. The programme enables large customers to secure new energy supplies in a flexible and competitive manner. Thanks to these projects and other facilities under development, Avangrid maintains its position as the programme’s leading energy supplier. The commissioning of these two power plants supports local economic development and job creation in Oregon and reinforces Iberdrola’s commitment to the United States, where the Group has €49.4 billion in assets and plans to invest €16 billion by 2028. Iberdrola currently serves a population of nearly 10 million people in the United States through its transmission and distribution networks New York, Maine, Connecticut and Massachusetts, and has 80 generation facilities with a total installed capacity of nearly 11,000 MW. 02/02/2026 - 16:53 UTC +01:00Iberdrola signs contract for new submarine electricity interconnector between Scotland and England The Iberdrola Group, through its UK subsidiary SP Energy Networks , has awarded Prysmian a contract worth €2.3 billion to manufacture the cable for the Eastern Green Link 4 submarine interconnector , a key electrical infrastructure for the future of the UK energy system. The new link, with a capacity of 2,000 MW, will connect Fife in Scotland with Norfolk in England using high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology. It is scheduled to come into operation in 2033 and will enable the transmission of enough renewable energy to supply more than 1.5 million homes. Eastern Green Link 4 will strengthen the country's ability to transfer electricity between regions, reduce constraints on electrical networks and increase security of supply. It will also facilitate the integration of new clean energy sources and support industrial development and economic growth. Prysmian will manufacture more than 640 kilometres of cable for this project, including 530 kilometres of HVDC submarine cable and more than 116 kilometres of underground cable. This technology allows large volumes of energy to be transported over long distances with maximum efficiency, a decisive factor in advancing towards national clean energy generation targets. Planning applications for the project, developed by SP Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission, will be submitted in Scotland and England throughout 2026. Following approval by the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Emissions, construction is expected to start in 2029 and the interconnector is expected to come on stream in 2033. SP Energy Networks and National Grid are also working on Eastern Green Link 1, another 2,000 MW link whose construction began in 2025 and which will connect Torness in Scotland with Hawthorne Pit in England. In December 2025, the regulator Ofgem authorised ScottishPower to invest around €14 billion in the modernisation and expansion of the electrical networks in central and southern Scotland. ScottishPower will build two submarine links using HVDC technology, Eastern Green Link 1 and Eastern Green Link 4, which will connect Scotland and England via the east of the British Isles. In addition, the Western Link 2 project, still in the study phase, will connect Scotland and Wales via a submarine link to the west of the country. These actions will be rolled out until 2031 and triple the investment allocated in the previous regulatory period. With these initiatives, Iberdrola is moving forward in line with the electrification targets set by the British Government in its 'Clean Power 2030 Plan'. Iberdrola's commitment to the United Kingdom The United Kingdom is one of the Iberdrola Group's strategic markets. The company plans to invest €20 billion until 2028, focusing primarily on the development and modernisation of distribution networks and renewable energy projects.
