During the event, which was attended by the lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, a commemorative book was presented tracing the past, present and future prospects of Iberdrola in what is called the "era of electricity", as the International Energy Agency describes it. The book is structured around three main sections. The first reviews the history of Iberdrola from its origins in Bilbao in 1901. The second focuses on the company's profound transformation over the past 25 years, in which, thanks to investments in networks , renewables and energy storage and the drive for international expansion, Iberdrola has become Europe's largest electricity company and one of the two largest in the world by market capitalisation. Finally, the third section looks at the future of the electricity sector and Iberdrola's role in a period characterised by the electrification of the economy. In his address, Iberdrola's Executive Chairman, Ignacio Galán , stressed that this publication is, above all, a tribute to those who have made Iberdrola's track record of growth and service to society possible. "The Iberdrola of today is the result of a collective effort, a unifying project that has continued to grow without ever losing its Basque roots," said Galán. The General Representative of Bizkaia, Elixabete Etxanobe, highlighted that "only a society that nurtures its companies, supports them and creates the conditions for them to flourish can aspire to something as extraordinary as having world champions: companies that lead strategic sectors on a global scale and drive a value chain of SMEs, start-ups and talent." "Iberdrola is the best example of this. A company from here, with its history and its vision for the future anchored in this region," she added. For his part, the lehendakari stressed that "Iberdrola is a product of the first Basque industrialisation. And 125 years later, it is a key player in driving the industrial and technological renaissance of the Basque Country and Europe." "We share a commitment to a national regulatory framework that encourages investment in electricity networks and makes the most of the EU's economic and fiscal tools. The present and future of our industrial employment and activity — and the possibility of new projects coming to the Basque Country — are at stake," concluded Imanol Pradales. Other authorities at the event included the General Representative of Bizkaia, Elixabete Etxanobe, and the Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, as well as members of the Board of Directors and Iberdrola's senior management team and representatives of employees, retirees, suppliers, shareholders and other organisations closely linked to Iberdrola's history. The event featured performances by the Bilbao Choral Society and the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and was hosted by Anne Igartiburu. Celebration with society The commemoration of Iberdrola's 125-year history will also extend to society as a whole in a major event consisting of a music festival featuring nationally and internationally renowned artists open to the public, followed by a light show visible from much of the city. These events are part of the extensive programme the company is rolling out across Spain to celebrate its 125 years. Under the banner 125 years of light, the programme includes technology and art exhibitions, music festivals, social events and illuminations of landmark buildings and monuments to celebrate with the general public a journey defined by a commitment to people and their contribution to progress through electrification. During the meeting, Ignacio Galán highlighted electrification as a key driver of industrial growth and an essential part of building a more resilient, competitive, sustainable and efficient energy system. He stressed the importance of expanding clean energy and strengthening energy infrastructure, particularly electricity grids and interconnections. He also welcomed recent progress in European Union energy policy and called for greater investment in grids and simpler administrative procedures to help accelerate electrification . In addition, he underlined the importance of stability and predictability in attracting investment. The summit focused on the impact of the current energy environment and the evolution of the EU’s competitiveness agenda. The plenary session also included discussions on the role of artificial intelligence in accelerating industrial transformation. Just one month ago, Iberdrola hosted a preparatory ERT meeting at its headquarters in Bilbao , where senior executives and advisers worked on the agenda for the plenary session in Sweden. 18/05/2026 - 14:03 UTC +02:00Iberdrola is driving forward the Labraza wind farm in the Basque Country with public participation Aixeindar, the company set up by Iberdrola España—a subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group in Spain —and the Basque Energy Agency (EVE) to promote new renewable energy projects in the Basque Country, is making progress with the construction of the Labraza wind farm in Álava. The 40 MW facility will be the first to come on stream in the Basque Country since 2006 and, through the ‘Gure Haizea’ crowdlending initiative, will allow citizens to participate in the investment in the farm, strengthening the link between electrification and the generation of shared value in the region. Once operational, the Labraza wind farm will produce around 99,679 MWh of renewable energy annually, enough to supply some 30,000 homes, and will prevent the emission of around 16,300 tonnes of CO2 per year. Furthermore, it will increase the installed wind power capacity in the Basque Country by 26%, contributing to electrification and the region’s progress towards greater energy self-sufficiency. The project also stands out for its economic, industrial and social impact, with an investment of €59 million, the involvement of companies in the supply chain and the implementation of advanced measures for environmental integration and biodiversity protection. The company has already installed 4,800 solar panels – 15% of the total planned – and begun tests to start supplying energy to the island's electricity grid. This pioneering initiative integrates solar generation and battery storage to turn Fernando de Noronha into the first inhabited oceanic island in Latin America with a highly sustainable energy model, setting a benchmark in self-sufficiency, security and efficiency. The project, developed by the Group's Brazilian subsidiary, Neoenergia, will feature more than 30,000 solar panels, represents an investment of 350 million reais (more than €50 million) and will be completed by the end of 2026. It is being developed in an environment recognised by Unesco as a Natural Heritage of Humanity. Noronha Verde will make it possible to eliminate the use of fossil fuels in the island's electricity generation, replacing them with renewable sources and clean technologies. The future solar plant will incorporate advanced battery storage systems and will reach an installed capacity of 22 MWp, with 49 MWh of storage, enough to cover consumption equivalent to that of 9,000 homes. This will help reduce the current dependence on biodiesel generation. The project, presented last November by Iberdrola's Executive Chairman, Ignacio Galán, and Brazil's Minister for Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, is being developed in partnership with the Federal Government and the Government of the State of Pernambuco. It forms part of the Mais por Noronha programme, which promotes electrification initiatives and new energy solutions on the island, including the installation of solar systems in homes and accommodation, the development of charging infrastructure and distributed microgeneration, the introduction of electric vehicles and the deployment of smart electricity grids . Following the success of recent years, the Group has tripled the number of cities where these events are taking place to strengthen its commitment to shareholder engagement and to fostering a relationship of proximity and active listening with them. The Shareholders' Meetings have been held so far in Valencia, Zaragoza, Pamplona, and San Sebastián. After its stop in Madrid, the event will continue on 26 May in Bilbao. Based on past experiences, Iberdrola expects to gather over 2,000 shareholders in total. As part of the celebration of Iberdrola's 125th anniversary , the company presented to shareholders the key milestones that have established Iberdrola as a global benchmark, detailing the profound transformation carried out in the last 25 years, the main aspects of its Strategic Plan 2025-2028 , and the solid performance registered in 2025, when the company reached a record profit of more than €6.2 billion. Close engagement with shareholders and greater incentives for participation The General Shareholders’ Meeting will be held with both in-person and remote attendance options, and the company has made extensive facilities available for shareholders to participate remotely ahead of the meeting through the corporate website, the Shareholder Helpline, instant messaging, email and postal voting. One major advantage is that proxy voting cards consolidate all of the holder’s shares, regardless of where they are deposited. This simplifies and facilitates participation while offering enhanced security through the inclusion of a QR code and access key. Iberdrola is therefore strengthening the open, accessible and sustainable meeting model that the company has been developing for years, which also includes permanent communication channels for shareholders and investors, such as the Shareholder’s Office, the Investor Relations Office and the Virtual Shareholder Assistant. As part of the agenda for the General Shareholders’ Meeting, and in line with its commitment to shareholder remuneration, the Board of Directors is proposing a final dividend of €0.427 per share, in addition to the €0.253 per share already paid on 2 February as an interim dividend. In this way, Iberdrola will allocate €4.5bn to dividends corresponding to financial year 2025 . In addition, Iberdrola is proposing the distribution of an engagement dividend of €1 gross for every 200 shares, subject to the quorum for the General Shareholders’ Meeting reaching 70% of share capital.
