24/10/2019Ignacio Galán, among the top 5 CEO in the world according to the ‘Harvard Business Review’ annual ranking 2019 The Chairman and Chief Executive of Iberdrola group , Ignacio Galán, has been placed in the top 5 best CEOs in the world according to the 2019 annual ranking produced by the prestigious business publication Harvard Business Review, announced last night in the United States. The publication´s CEO 100 list also reflects that, coming in 5th place — contrasting with the 36th place he occupied in 2018 — makes Ignacio Galán the best CEO of all the world's energy companies, as well as the top executive of the Spanish companies existing today. This world ranking takes into account not only positive economic/financial company results but also, with an ever-increasing weighting — 30% in this edition — their commitment to environmental and social issues, and matters of corporate governance. Only three other Spanish CEOs appear in the 2019 list produced by the Harvard Business Review: Luis Maroto, of Amadeus IT (44th); Íñigo Meirás, of Ferrovial (46th); and Florentino Pérez, of ACS (66th). As regards energy companies, there are also only three other executives in this year's ranking: Alfred Chan, of Hong Kong and China Gas (28th); Paolo Roca, of Tenaris (65th), and James Robo, of NextEra Energy (82nd). The current Chairman and CEO of Iberdrola joined Iberdrola in 2001 and, since his arrival, the company has become a global energy leader, the top producer of wind energy and one of the biggest electricity companies in terms of market capitalisation in the world. The group supplies energy to almost 100 million people in dozens of countries including Spain, the United Kingdom (ScottishPower), the United States (Avangrid*), Brazil (Neoenergia**), Mexico, Germany, Portugal, Italy and France. With a workforce of around 34,000 and assets in excess of €113 billions, it achieved a turnover of €35 billions and a net profit of €3 billions in 2018. Under Galan's leadership, Iberdrola is leading the transition towards a sustainable energy model through investments in renewable energy, smart grids, large-scale energy storage and digital transformation, to offer its customers the most advanced products and services. Thanks to its commitment to clean energy, Iberdrola is one of the companies with the lowest emissions and an international benchmark for its contribution to the fight against climate change and to sustainability. Specifically, Ignacio Galán was last September one of the few businesspeople actively present at the UN Climate Action Summit 2019 held in New York, where he again urged all world governments that it is time to turn words into actions on the subject of emissions reductions. * Avangrid, Inc. is 81,50% owned by Iberdrola, S.A. ** Neoenergia, S. A. is 50% + 1 share indirectly owned by Iberdrola, S. A. READ MORE

24/10/2019Iberdrola hopes to reach one million customers in France by 2023 with 100% renewable energy Iberdrola , a world leader in the energy sector and a pioneer in the field of renewable energy, announces its target of supplying one million private customers in France by 2023. The company also wishes to become the leader in the power purchase agreement (PPA) market to help companies with the decarbonisation process. Iberdrola has been marketing green electricity products to the public and businesses since October 2018. Offering the French an ecologically responsible and competitive choice Iberdrola, the pioneer in renewable energy in Spain, has arrived on the French market with an electricity offer up to 10% cheaper than the regulated tariff (excluding taxes), with the aim of offering customers a competitive green option. The energy utility, which already has 100,000 customers, intends to gain 10% of the domestic market. Reginald Thiebaut, general manager of Iberdrola in France, says: "We are convinced that today our customers are not only looking for a competitive green alternative, they are also looking for the security of choosing a company that is truly committed to energy transition." Iberdrola benefits from having a genuinely green DNA thanks to its significant investments in renewable energy over the last 20 years. In addition, the company is investing over €200m a year in innovation so as to offer French customers services that are already in place in other countries, such as the Smart Solar option. For just a few dozen euros a month, this package includes the installation and maintenance of solar panels, so that everyone can produce their own electricity at home. Another emblematic service is Smart Mobility, which includes the installation in the home of charging points for electric vehicles. Supporting businesses in their energy transition with power purchase agreements Iberdrola is offering businesses its experience and a tailor-made proposal to help them in their energy transition. The Group is taking advantage of long-term PPAs that allow businesses to rely on a 100% renewable energy supply. Over the last few years, Iberdrola has signed PPAs with a number of multinationals in the US, Mexico, Spain and the UK. The power supplied under these energy contracts comes from the Group's wind and photovoltaic facilities. "Due to falling costs and pressing decarbonisation targets, it is to be hoped that in the coming years there will be an acceleration of growth in renewable energy in Europe. We are convinced that the emergence of PPAs, already well established in the USA, will bring about a change in Europe's structural model. Thanks to our experience in this field, we already have all the necessary means to deal with this challenge," said Reginald Thiebaut. An energy company committed to the energy transition since 2001 Iberdrola has been aware since 2001 of the challenge posed by climate change and the fact that the strong growth in world energy demand cannot be met without a sustainable energy model, free of fossil fuels. Since its launch on the French market, Iberdrola has been contributing actively towards France's ambitious decarbonisation targets, which involve a 40% reduction in its consumption of fossil fuels by 2030. Under the Paris Agreement, Iberdrola has committed to becoming a carbon neutral company by 2050. Since then, Iberdrola has invested all its technological potential in energy transition: as of today, over a third of its installed capacity emits no CO2 and its emissions are 32% lower than the European average. While Iberdrola supports all forms of renewable energy, its production model focuses specifically on hydroelectric power, onshore and offshore wind farms, and photovoltaic power. Another of the Group's priorities is large-scale energy storage, with the aim of tackling the problem of the intermittent nature of renewable energy. As part of its investment plan for 2018-2022, Iberdrola will be investing €34bn, of which €13.3bn will go towards renewable energy. 70% of this amount has been invested in projects that are under construction or have been completed. In France, through the Ailes Marines consortium (70% Iberdrola, 30% Avel Vor), Iberdrola is rolling out the Saint Brieuc project, scheduled for commissioning in 2023. This is the first large-scale offshore wind power project in Brittany, involving an investment of €2.2bn. With an installed capacity of 496 MW, once up and running, this facility is expected to cover the energy needs of 835,000 people, thereby increasing the penetration of renewable energy in the French energy mix. Major ongoing projects: * Offshore wind: o East Anglia One (UK), commissioned in 2020, with an installed capacity of 714 MW. o Wikinger South and Baltic Eagle (Germany), construction start in 2022; commissioning in 2024 and a joint installed capacity of 486 MW. o Vineyard Wind (USA), 800 MW; commissioning in 2022. * Onshore wind: commissioning of 1 GW new wind power capacity by the end of 2019 in the US, Brazil, Mexico and Spain. * Hydroelectric: construction of the Tâmega complex (Portugal), with 1158 MW of power. * Photovoltaic: o 2000 MW under construction in Spain which will come into operation in 2021. Key figures: * 50,143 MW of installed capacity of which 31,006 MW correspond to renewable energy (17,339 MW wind; 13,048 MW hydroelectric; 619 MW photovoltaic) * 112,112 GWh of generation (January - September 2019) * 173,975 GWh of electricity distributed (January-September 2019) READ MORE

23/10/2019Iberdrola is progressing its renewable strategy with the purchase of 118 MW of wind power capacity from Siemens Gamesa in Spain Iberdrola is progressing its plan to relaunch clean energies following its agreement with Siemens Gamesa for the acquisition of three wind farm developments in Spain, with total installed capacity of 117.8 megawatts (MW): the BaCa (Ballestas and Casetona) wind farm and the Puylobo project. Located in the municipalities of Castrojeriz and Vallejera in Burgos, the Ballestas and Casetona wind power facility has installed capacity of 69.3 MW and comprises twenty 3.4 MW SG 3.4-132 wind turbines. These facilities have just come on stream and their output will provide clean energy to the equivalent of 25,200 homes per year, preventing the emission of 40,000 tonnes of CO2 a year. Work on the Puylobo wind farm, with installed capacity of 48.5 MW, will start in the coming weeks; this work will include installation of fourteen SG 3.4-132 wind turbines. Located in the municipalities of Borja and Mallén in Zaragoza, its output will provide clean energy to the equivalent of 20,000 homes per year, preventing the emission of 32,000 tonnes of CO2 a year. There is a large local component in the construction of both projects, with practically all of the civil engineering work and the components of the wind turbines -towers, blades, nacelles, hubs, generators, gearboxes and transformers - being manufactured in Spain, at facilities in Asturias, Cantabria, Soria and Burgos. Iberdrola’s plan to relaunch clean energy in Spain This agreement forms part of Iberdrola’s investment plan for renewable energy in Spain, where it plans to have installed 3,000 MW of capacity by 2022. Iberdrola currently has over 2,200 MW of wind and solar facilities under construction -a total of 700 MW (Núñez de Balboa solar plant and the Cavar and El Pradillo wind farms)- or at an advanced stage of planning, representing 75% of its planned installed capacity for 2022. The company plans to have installed 10,000 MW of new capacity in Spain by 2030. This plan will create jobs for 20,000 people. Iberdrola is committed to leading the transition toward a completely carbon-free economy by promoting renewable energies and accelerating investment in Spain, where it intends to invest €8bn between 2018 and 2022. Top wind energy producer in Spain Iberdrola is the most prolific producer of wind energy in Spain, with installed capacity of 5,793 MW and total installed renewable capacity of 16,027 MW. These new investments also reinforce the company’s presence in two regions: Iberdrola has 5,087 MW of renewable capacity in Castilla y León, the Autonomous Community where it has the largest volume of installed “green” megawatts; this capacity is mostly hydroelectric. In Aragon, Iberdrola operates more than 344 MW of wind and hydroelectric facilities, and will bring the El Pradillo (23 MW) wind farm on stream before the end of the year. Globally, Iberdrola's installed renewable capacity is over 31,000 MW, which makes its generation fleet one of the cleanest in the energy sector. READ MORE
