14/07/2020Matarromera commits to electric mobility in collaboration with Iberdrola Bodegas Familiares Matarromera and Iberdrola have joined forces to combat climate change and encourage sustainable mobility through an agreement signed this morning in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid, Castilla y León) to develop an electric vehicle charging infrastructure on its sites in Valladolid, La Rioja and Ourense. The alliance is for a total of 16 electric chargers supplying 100% green energy at the company’s Matarromera and Emina (DO Ribera) wineries; Emina (DO Rueda); Carlos Moro (DOCa Rioja); Valdelosfrailes (DO Cigales) and Casar de Vide (DO Ribeiro). Operations manager at Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, Alberto Guadarrama, and Iberdrola’s sales manager in Castilla y León, Celiano García, signed the collaboration agreement to install the 22 kW charging stations over the coming months. These will be available to the public so that all electric vehicle users can charge during business hours. The initiative is part of an umbrella sustainability project called “Sustainable Matarromera on Planet Earth”, which includes a set of priority measures such as reducing energy dependency and emissions, ecological production and environmental R&D+i projects. Alberto Guadarrama explained that “sustainability has been a hallmark of the company since the start, promoted by founder Carlos Moro. All the wineries are sustainable buildings designed with natural light, optimal insulation and use of rain and residual water for watering the vines. In fact, it was the first Spanish company with AENOR certification to measure its carbon footprint, in other words, the environmental impact of producing its wines”. Likewise, Celiano Garcia underlined that the company “has found the perfect ally to make progress implementing solutions to meet the challenge of electrical mobility based on clean energy and without Co2 emissions. He added that “transport electrification, together with the growth of electricity generated from renewable sources, will make a decisive contribution to reducing pollution in our cities and increasing energy efficiency”. 100% green energy and digital solutions The users of this infrastructure will charge the batteries of their electric cars with 100% green energy from clean generation sources with certificates guaranteeing its renewable origin (GoO). The charging points will be available on the Iberdrola Public Charging App , the only one in Spain with verified information about all Iberdrola's Public Charging points, and those belonging to other operators. The app enables drivers to locate charging stations, check the operational status in real time, book a charging point and pay with a mobile phone. Iberdrola speeds up electric mobility Iberdrola continues to push its stance for transport electrification as part of its strategy towards a decarbonised economy, as a key lever in the reduction of emissions and of city pollution, as well as for green recovery in the post-Covid world. In March, the company decided to step up its sustainable mobility plan by making additional investments - a total of 150 million euros - to provide even more electric vehicle charging stations. The initiative entails around 150,000 electric vehicle charging points in homes, companies and on the public road network in cities as well as on the main motorways and highways over the next five years. The commitment to deploying fast charging stations will see the company install ultra-rapid (350 kW) charging stations every 200 kilometres, super-rapid (150 kW) every 100 kilometres, and rapid (50 kW) charging stations every 50 kilometres. 10/07/2020Iberdrola is forging ahead with its super-rapid charging corridor in the centre and south of the Iberian Peninsula Iberdrola has made progress with its electric mobility plan by opening a Premium Service Station with super-rapid and rapid charging points along one of the main corridors on the Peninsula that connects the centre and south, that is both western Andalusia and Portugal. The president of the government of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández-Vara, the CEO of Iberdrola España Ángeles Santamaría and the general manager of the Leo Complex went along to charge the first vehicle at the super-rapid charging point at this Premium Station. The station has a 150-kW charger and two rapid and standard chargers, with 50 kW and 22 kW respectively. The Premium infrastructure breaks records when it comes to the time needed to charge an electric vehicle, which is just five to ten minutes. It also slashes the cost of driving, with the 538-km trip from Madrid to Seville (or vice-versa) costing just over €10 euros, and the journey from Madrid to the Cádiz coast (or vice-versa) just over 15 euros*. This is three times cheaper than travelling in a petrol-fuelled vehicle, which costs around 45 euros for the Madrid-Cádiz route. What’s more, it is a sustainable choice that does not emit CO2 into the atmosphere. The main super-rapid charging corridors The Premium Service Station in Monesterio with super-rapid charging facilities is on the Leo Complex, a facility visited by 4.7 million vehicles last year. Users have recognised it as one of the top five in Spain and the best on the La Plata (Silver) motorway. In Extremadura, the company is applying for permission to build a further 18 charging stations on public roads — one of them a Premium station — and it is looking at seven more sites. Several of which will host super-rapid chargers. Since March, Iberdrola has been on a mission to speed up its sustainable mobility plan, in which it will invest 150 million euros over the next five years. This initiative will ramp up the commissioning of these electric vehicle charging points — to a total of 150,000 in homes, companies and on the public road network — consisting of super-rapid and ultra-rapid chargers (150 kW and 350 kW respectively) on the country's main motorways. These will be installed every 100 km and 200 km, respectively. Three months on, and despite the extraordinary inconveniences of the Covid-19 situation, Iberdrola is opening a Premium Station on the Silver Route. A similar facility is set to open in Oropesa (Toledo) on the A5 or South East motorway, within the next few days. Work is already underway to build super-rapid charging infrastructure on two more of the country’s most important corridors: the North-West motorway or A6 between Madrid and Galicia and the North-East motorway or A2, which will enable electric vehicles to charge, at competitive prices, as far as Barcelona. So far, Iberdrola has installed 5,500 electric charging points nationwide. Around 600 of these are rapid charging points on roads and motorways. The company has more than 1,800 rapid, super-rapid and ultra-rapid charging points on public roads in different stages of development. Electric vehicle drivers using Iberdrola stations can charge their electric vehicles with 100 % green energy from clean generation sources with renewable Guarantee of Origin (GoO) certificates. The Premium Station in Monesterio is now available on the Iberdrola Public Charging App, the only one in Spain with verified information about all Iberdrola's Public Charging points, and those belonging to other operators. The digital app enables drivers to locate, check the operational status, and in the case of Iberdrola chargers, book a charging point and pay with a mobile phone. Iberdrola speeds up electric mobility Iberdrola is on a mission to electrify transport as part of its decarbonised economy strategy. This is a key factor for reducing emissions and pollution in cities and pivotal to the post-Covid-19 green recovery. *Assuming the vehicle is charged at home at Iberdrola rates. 09/07/2020Ignacio Galán takes part in the IEA’s major world summit to map out the green recovery as the only Spanish businessman Iberdrola's Chairman, Ignacio Galán, was the only Spanish businessman and one of the few Europeans to speak today at the major world forum convened by the International Energy Agency (IEA) under the title IEA Clean Energy Transitions Summit , and Iberdrola was the world’s largest private utility to participate. This summit, in which most of the world's GDP and around 80% of global energy consumption and emissions were represented, allowed very limited access for the business sector. During his participation in the Resilient and Sustainable Electricity Sector panel, Galán gave his vision of what the cornerstones of green recovery should be. The electricity sector will play a key role in this, having demonstrated its great resilience during the COVID-19 crisis. Firstly, Iberdrola's Chairman analysed the challenge posed by the massive growth in renewable capacity throughout the world: “It is already a reality in all markets, given the competitiveness and sustainability of available technology”. But to support this growth, said Galán, “we will need significant investment in infrastructure (networks and storage) to enable us to integrate this new renewable energy into the system, in order to maintain stability and security of supply”. In this sense, “it is essential to have long-term remuneration periods and stable and predictable regulations to allow us to safely develop the technology we already have”, added Iberdrola's Chairman. With regard to new technologies such as green hydrogen, which represent an opportunity for decarbonisation for certain sectors, he highlighted the need to allocate more resources to R&D&I, with stimulus packages to make them competitive. Short, medium and long term planning “Short, medium and long term planning will be absolutely essential if we are to create attractive frameworks”, said Galán, who acknowledged that in recent days there have been good signs in this regard, with decisions to accelerate investments in networks and renewables and with the new strategy launched just yesterday by the European Union. It is the opinion of Iberdrola's chairman that all of this will have to go hand in hand with the development of a market model that provides the necessary returns for backup technologies, in a system with increasing renewable penetration. “Otherwise, security will be compromised and without security there is no sustainability”. About the IEA Clean Energy Transitions Summit Ministers from the countries that account for most of the world's GDP, energy use and emissions convened virtually today for this major summit, the largest debate on energy and climate since the start of the pandemic. During the summit, short-term actions for sustainable recovery were analysed, as well as governmental actions to accelerate the energy transition and innovation. Among the high-level participants were António Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations; Alok Sharma, United Kingdom's Secretary of State and President of the next COP26, and the ministers of the countries that hosted the last two COP meetings (Spain and Chile). They were joined by the president of the Asian Development Bank, the president of the World Economic Forum (Davos), the top leaders of the global energy sector, major investors and representatives of civil society. Participants also included representatives of the world's largest energy consumers: Minister Zhang Jianhua of China, Secretary Dan Brouillette of the United States, Minister R.K. Singh from India, European Commission Vice-President Frans Timmermans and Japanese Minister Kajiyama Hiroshi. READ MORE

08/07/2020Iberdrola receives €800 million in financing from EIB and ICO to boost the green recovery in Spain Iberdrola today signed an agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO) to drive the green recovery by developing new renewable energy capacity in Spain. To this end, the EIB and ICO will provide €600 million and €200 million, respectively, to the Spanish energy company to finance the construction of over 20 projects with total capacity exceeding 2 000 MW. These new facilities will provide green, competitive energy equal to the average annual energy use of almost 1 million households. The EU bank is assisting this operation via a green energy loan, the features of which are fully in line with the requirements set out in its Climate Awareness Bonds programme. As a result, it is likely to be allocated to its portfolio of loan operations financed via the issuance of these bonds. The ICO financing is the third green loan it has granted to Iberdrola aiming to promote energy generation using renewable, non-polluting sources. The investments made under this agreement will have a positive impact on economic and employment growth – both particularly important in light of current events – while also helping to combat climate change. The new infrastructure will make it possible to create a total of 3 000 direct jobs during the construction phase, as well as those created in other related sectors, until 2023. These come in addition to several hundred permanent positions, mostly in the rural areas where the new facilities will be located. In concrete terms, the EIB and ICO will finance photovoltaic plants and wind farms in several different parts of Spain, most of which are in transition regions. Part of the financing originating from these loans will go towards a new solar plant in Cáceres, in the municipalities of Ceclavín and Alcántara, with installed capacity of 328 MW. Further projects have been analysed to benefit from financing under this credit line, including wind farms and solar plants in a wide range of Spanish regions. They will not only expand the generation of clean energy, both also improve Spain's security of supply and diversify its energy mix. Iberdrola President Ignacio Galán indicated that “the green recovery is the perfect opportunity to generate sustainable growth and massive future employment”. “With the agreement we are signing today with the EIB and ICO, we are moving forward with our commitment to accelerate investment and put 3 000 MW of new capacity into service in Spain by 2022 and up to 10 000 MW by 2030. In doing this, Iberdrola will create 20 000 high quality jobs in our country. We are certain that this is the right path, supported by both the Spanish Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) and the European Green Deal.” EIB Vice-President Emma Navarro, who is responsible for the Bank's climate action and operations in Spain, said: “We are happy to continue working with Iberdrola to support infrastructure enabling Spain to take advantage of its huge renewable energy potential, and contributing to economic growth and employment at this critical time. This agreement is yet another example of our commitment, as the EU climate bank, to support operations facilitating the transition to a low-carbon economy.” She highlighted “the dual role of green investment as a key focus for the economic recovery following the COVID-19 crisis and as a basic component of long-term growth in Europe.” ICO Chairman José Carlos García de Quevedo said that “the agreement reached today strengthens the EIB and ICO's partnership to promote the development of renewable energy projects by Spanish companies like Iberdrola. Fostering green investment is a key focus for securing a sustainable recovery with a positive impact on creating and safeguarding jobs.” Iberdrola, for a green recovery Iberdrola is a global leader in the energy market, the leading supplier of wind power and one of the largest electricity companies by market capitalisation in the world. The group supplies energy to some 100 million people in dozens of countries, such as Spain, the UK (ScottishPower), the United States (AVANGRID), Brazil (Neoenergia), Mexico, Germany, Portugal, Italy and France. With a workforce of over 35 000 employees and assets exceeding €122 billion, it turned over €36.438 billion and made a net profit of €3.406 billion in 2019. Iberdrola is leading the energy transition towards a sustainable model through its investments in renewable energies, smart networks, large-scale energy storage and digital transformation to offer its clients cutting-edge products and services. With its commitment to clean energy, it is one of the companies with the lowest emissions and sets an international example with its contribution to climate action and sustainability. It is a leader in green finance, being the first Spanish company to close a green bond issue and having carried out eight senior public issues with this format to date. It has also completed green private placements and other subsidiaries in its group – such as AVANGRID and Neoenergia – have made further green bond issues. In line with this strategy, in late 2016 Iberdrola became the world's first energy company to take out a green loan. The EU climate bank The EIB is the world's largest multilateral provider of climate finance. Its goal is to be a leader in mobilising the finance needed to limit the average global temperature increase to 1.5°C compared to preindustrial levels in order to meet the Paris Agreement objectives. On 14 November 2019, the EIB Board of Directors approved its new climate objectives and the new energy lending policy. The Bank will gradually increase its financing for climate and environmental objectives up to 50% by 2025, with the goal of ensuring that the EIB Group mobilises at least €1 trillion in the critical decade between 2021 and 2030 to promote investments helping to meet these objectives. It also announced its intention to align all EIB Group activities with the Paris Agreement. To this end, the EIB will cease financing fossil fuel-based projects from late 2021. The EIB is the world's largest issuer of green bonds and was the first organisation to make an issue on this market in 2007. The European Investment Bank (ElB) is the long-term lending institution of the European Union owned by its Member States. It makes long-term finance available for sound investment in order to contribute towards EU policy objectives. ICO's commitment to sustainability ICO has made sustainability a cross-cutting principle for action in all its forms: environmental, social and governance, both in borrowing operations raising funds on the international markets, and in directing it to lending operations, financing businesses and projects, as well as in its social responsibility policy. In 2019 it launched its first, €500 million green bond issue to the marketplace and operations totalling over €1.08 billion were approved to finance environmentally and socially sustainable projects. The Instituto de Crédito Oficial (ICO – www.ico.es ) is a corporate state-owned entity attached to the Spanish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation. ICO contributes to inclusive and sustainable growth, supporting economic activities meriting promotion and development as a result of their social, cultural, innovative or environmental importance.
