01/04/2025 - 07:12 UTC +02:00Iberdrola sells Maine Natural Gas for nearly $90 million to the US energy company Unitil Iberdrola has sold 100% of the US company Maine Natural Gas (MNG) to Unitil, a public energy holding company with business in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. The operation is valued at approximately $90 million (subject to closing adjustments). MNG's assets include 231 miles of pipelines and serve about 6,000 customers. This transaction reinforces Iberdrola's strategy focused on the sale of non-strategic assets, portfolio optimisation with value creation, capital discipline, and structure simplification of its structure. MNG is a small gas business, non essential for Iberdrola, so it was outside the company's strategic scope. With this divestment, the company focuses its investment on the U.S. electricity grids, which account for 80% of the company's business in the country. The transaction is pending the usual authorization processes in this type of transaction but is expected to close by the end of the year. Alliances for Growth In recent years, the company has pursued a strategy of alliances and divestments to accelerate its growth and drive the electrification of the economy while maintaining its financial strength. In addition to the agreement with Kansai a few weeks ago to accelerate electrification in different countries, the company chaired by Ignacio Galán has completed the following transactions in recent months: * It completed the sale of the Baixo Iguaçu hydroelectric plant. * It allowed Kansai to participate in the German Windanker offshore wind project valued at €1.28 billion. * It acquired the British distributor ENW for €5 billion. * It completed the merger with Avangrid , after acquiring the 18.4% stake it did not control to strengthen its electricity grid business in the US. * It sold more than 8,400 MW of gas-fired combined cycle plants in Mexico in February 2024 for $6.2 billion. * In December 2023, Iberdrola closed a strategic agreement with Masdar to co-invest up to €15 billion in offshore wind and green hydrogen in Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. * In September 2023, the company signed a €430 million partnership with GIC to expand transmission networks in Brazil . * In March 2023, Iberdrola and BP launched a joint venture to deploy 11,700 fast-charging points in Spain and Portugal and have formed a 50/50 joint venture to develop a 25 MW green hydrogen project, the largest plant in Spain. * In January 2023, it signed a partnership with Norges Bank to co-invest in renewables , which, after expansion, will reach 2,500 MW. * Iberdrola and MAPFRE have continued to advance their strategic alliance by adding 150 new MW through a joint venture, which already has 450 MW. * In addition, Iberdrola signed an alliance with Energy Infrastructure Partners to co-invest in the Wikinger offshore wind farm and strengthen its offshore wind portfolio { "@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "NewsArticle", "headline": "Iberdrola sells Maine Natural Gas for nearly $90 million to the US energy company Unitil", "description": "This transaction reinforces Iberdrola's strategy focused on the sale of non-strategic assets, portfolio optimization with value creation, and capital discipline.", "image": "https://www.iberdrola.com/documents/20125/4075235/torre-iberdrola-726x484.jpg", "datePublished": "01.04.2025 - 07:12 UTC +02:00", "dateModified": "01.04.2025 - 07:12 UTC +02:00", "mainEntityOfPage": "https://www.iberdrola.com/press-room/news/detail/Iberdrola-sells-Maine-Natural-Gas-USD-90-million-energy-company-Unitil", "publisher": { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Iberdrola", "logo": { "@type": "ImageObject", "url": "https://www.iberdrola.com/documents/20125/4419331/Logo1-iberdrola-363x205.jpg" } } } READ MORE

28/03/2025 - 12:30 UTC +01:00Iberdrola’s contribution to the public coffers up by 8%, to over €10.3 B in 2024 Iberdrola has consolidated its position as one of the companies that contributes most to taxation in the countries in which it operates . In a record year for investments – which reached €17 B as a result of the growth in demand in all markets – the company's tax contribution has also reached historic levels. It increased by 8% to more than €10.3 B in 2024. This amount doubles the group's net profit and is equivalent to the contribution of more than €28 M per day in taxes, i.e. €1.2 M every hour. The positive impact on society of the activity of the electricity company chaired by Ignacio Galán is reflected both in its commitment to the economy’s electrification, which drives the economy and jobs, and in its tax contribution. The contribution to the public coffers in the more than 25 countries in which the electricity company operates has exceeded €50 B in the last six years. The Group is subject to more than 70 electricity taxes worldwide, the vast majority of which are in Spain, where it is subject to 40 electricity taxes, 26 of which are regional. Overall, taxes and charges affecting the income statement, excluding corporate income tax, account for 111% of net operating expenses, a very striking figure compared to the same percentage in the rest of the world (49%). Iberdrola's total contribution by country is led by Spain (€4.313 B), followed by Brazil (€2.428 B), the United States (€1.292 B), the United Kingdom (€1.260 B) and Mexico (€442 M). The rest of the countries contributed €565 M. The company as an engine of wealth Iberdrola is aware of the importance and contribution of taxation, as the taxes paid by the group in the countries and territories in which it has a presence generate a significant job- and wealth-creation effect in the regions. The company contributes with its activity to the creation of wealth and prosperity wherever it operates. Its contribution to world GDP is more than €52 B, 14% more than in the previous year, of which nearly €17.5 B correspond to Spain, while its global workforce totals 42,200 people, generating nearly 500,000 jobs directly, indirectly and induced around the world. { "@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "NewsArticle", "headline": "Iberdrola’s contribution to the public coffers up by 8%, to over €10.3 B in 2024", "description": "The group's tax contribution has almost doubled its net profit and brings in €1.2 M every hour.", "image": "https://www.iberdrola.com/documents/20125/4979284/Torre-iberdrola-arbol-726x484.jpg", "datePublished": "2025-03-28T12:14:00+01:00", "dateModified": "2025-03-28T12:14:00+01:00", "mainEntityOfPage": "https://www.iberdrola.com/press-room/news/detail/iberdrola-contribution-to-the-public-coffers-up-by-8-per-cent-to-over-103-billion-euro-in-2024", "publisher": { "@type": "Organization", "name": "Iberdrola", "logo": { "@type": "ImageObject", "url": "https://www.iberdrola.com/documents/20125/4419331/Logo1-iberdrola-363x205.jpg" } } } READ MORE
