Iberdrola in Italy
Accelerating the electrification of Italy’s economy
Iberdrola’s investment in Italy is strengthening the country’s energy security, promoting the electrification of the economy and enhancing the competitiveness of Italian industry.
Iberdrola began operating in Italy in 2007. Since then, the company has expanded its different business activities and progressively strengthened its presence in the country. In 2022, it relaunched its renewable generation activity with the commissioning of its Montalto di Castro photovoltaic plant in the Lazio region, followed by additional facilities across several complexes throughout the country.
The development of solar and wind projects, together with key acquisitions, has enabled the company to exceed 450 MW of installed renewable capacity (following the acquisition of the Basilicata wind project in May 2026), supported by a substantial development pipeline with a potential capacity of 6.8 GW.
Particularly noteworthy are the investments in clean generation projects supported by long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs), in line with the Group’s Strategic Plan 2025-2028 at a global level. These agreements are a key tool for providing Italian industry with a stable and competitive supply of renewable energy.
