Wind energy benchmarks in France

France Iberdrola International

Iberdrola has positioned itself as one of the leading electricity operators in the French market, a benchmark in onshore wind energy production and a leader in offshore wind development thanks to the construction of Saint-Brieuc, the country's second large-scale offshore facility.

Iberdrola has been developing, building and operating renewable energy projects in France since 2005, prioritising respect for the environment and the social and economic development of the regions where its facilities are located. The company plans to invest around €4 billion by 2025, mainly in renewable projects.

Iberdrola, a leading player in offshore development in France

With a presence in 8 cities, including Paris and Marseille, Iberdrola has 118 MW of operational onshore wind generation in France, almost 500 MW available from the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm and a growth plan for both onshore wind and photovoltaic projects of between 700 and 900 MW by the end of the decade.

The connection of the first wind turbines of the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm to the French grid in July 2023 was a milestone for the company's offshore development and also for the country, as it is the first large-scale offshore wind project in Brittany and the second in France to produce clean energy.

Our most emblematic projects and installations in France

Iberdrola is one of France's leading wind energy producers, with 11 onshore wind farms in operation, including Pays de Boussac, with 17 MW of installed capacity, and Energie du Champs des Sourettes, with 16.1 MW.

However, our most emblematic installation on French soil is undoubtedly the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm, the first large-scale offshore wind project in Brittany and the second in France. Commissioned in 2023, it will have a total installed capacity of 496 MW thanks to its 62 wind turbines, enough clean energy to supply the electricity consumption of 835,000 households in France.

Promoting ESG criteria in France

Sustainable development is real when it takes into account the creation of value for the rest of the customers or people involved. At Iberdrola, we maintain our commitment to our Stakeholders and align our strategy with the three pillars used internationally to measure the impact and sustainability of corporate work: environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors, in order to contribute to achieving sustainable development.

These are some of Iberdrola's ESG achievements and initiatives in France:

Environmental conservation programmes such as the protection of birdlife, with actions to combat the predation of seabirds at Cap Fréhel by the black crow at the Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm.

Promotion of diversity and inclusion through collaboration agreements with external entities and participation in relevant forums such as the Women's Forum.
