East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm
East Anglia THREE, the wind farm with the largest blades ever deployed in the UK
Offshore wind Iberdrola projects United Kingdom ScottishPower
Iberdrola Group, through its UK subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables, has begun construction of its East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm. This new facility, located 69 km off the coast of Suffolk in the southern part of the North Sea, will cover an area of 305 km² and have an installed capacity of 1,400 MW, generated by 95 turbines.

East Anglia THREE, the second of the four projects that will make up the East Anglia Hub, is being developed in partnership with Masdar as its strategic partner and will be located in the North Sea, around 69 kilometres off the coast of Suffolk. This new offshore wind farm, developed through our UK subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables, will cover an area of 305 km² and supply electricity to 1.3 million UK homes once the project is completed.
With an investment of £4 billion (more than €4.67 billion), East Anglia THREE will become the largest offshore wind farm developed by ScottishPower to date. The project has stable, long-term revenues thanks to 15-year Contracts for Difference indexed to the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) and awarded in the UK Government's AR4 and AR6 allocation rounds. This is complemented by a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Amazon signed in 2024.
During the construction phase, the project has supported 2,300 jobs and, throughout its estimated 25-year operational life, will generate around 100 permanent jobs in the east of England.
With East Anglia THREE, Iberdrola is driving the electrification of the UK by developing a project with an installed capacity of 1,400 MW of clean, domestically generated electricity to meet demand in the region.
This is how the 95 foundations for the East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm were installed.

Development of the East Anglia THREE project
The construction of East Anglia THREE is marked by a series of technological milestones in the region. In April 2026, the project's first wind turbine was installed, featuring 115-metre-long blades that have become the largest ever manufactured and assembled in UK waters. To put the scale of this achievement into perspective, one of these blades – manufactured by Siemens Gamesa – is longer than a professional football pitch.
In September 2026, installation of the foundations was completed, marking a milestone for projects of this type: the 95 monopiles installed, weighing between 1,200 and 1,800 tonnes and ranging from 67 to 84 metres in height, are the largest ever installed by a jack-up vessel in Europe. Also in September, installation of the 95 corresponding transition pieces was completed. These structures are up to 20 metres high, eight metres in diameter and weigh more than 400 tonnes.
Technical features of East Anglia THREE
This project comprises two main development areas: the offshore wind farm and the infrastructure that distributes the electricity generated onshore.
Offshore development:
- It has 95 wind turbines installed on monopile foundations.
- It covers an area of 305 km².
- It is located 69 km off the coast of Suffolk.
- It will have an offshore substation.
- Its wind turbines will have a tip height of 262 metres and a rotor diameter of 230 metres.
- The 115-metre blades will be the largest installed in the UK.
- Four subsea cables will run from the wind farm to transport the electricity to shore.
Onshore development:
- The landfall point is located at Bawdsey, with a transition pit connecting the offshore cables to the onshore cables.
- It will have two underground cables and three fibre-optic cables laid through the ducts installed for East Anglia ONE, running more than 37 km from the landfall point to the substation at Bramford.
- The Bramford substation will connect the offshore wind farm to the national electricity network.
