Iberdrola in Mexico

Iberdrola sells its assets in Mexico

Iberdrola has completed the sale of its subsidiary, Iberdrola México. The scope of the transaction includes an installed capacity of 2,600 MW currently in operation –comprising 1,368 MW from combined-cycle and cogeneration plants and 1,232 MW from wind and solar power assets– as well as the commercial operations and the portfolio of generation projects, which the buyer intends to bring online in the future in line with its expansion plans in the country.

Following several years in the country, this operation meets the investment expectations of €58 billion in our Networks business, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom.

The transaction began in 2024 with the divestment of 55% of the business in Mexico, which included 13 generation plants comprising gas-fired combined cycle plants and facilities operating under the Independent Power Producer regime, which were subsequently managed months later by MIP (Mexico Infrastructure Partners).

On 31 July 2025, Iberdrola announced the sale of its business in Mexico, through its subsidiary Iberdrola México, with the aim of complying with the company’s 2025–2028 Strategic Plan. The transaction, together with the capital increase carried out in July 2025, secures the funds needed to undertake the planned investments.
