Offshore wind energy is a renewable, inexhaustible and non-polluting source of energy obtained by harnessing the force of the wind that occurs at sea.

EAST ANGLIA ONE OFFSHORE WIND FARM
Iberdrola is working on the construction of one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world through its subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables. With an approximate length of 300 km2 it will have an installed capacity of 714 MW.

SAINT-BRIEUC OFFSHORE WIND FARM
The Iberdrola group, in collaboration with French companies RES and Caisse Des Dépôts, will be carrying out this project; the company's first large-scale project in Brittany which will have a total installed capacity of 496 MW.

VINEYARD WIND OFFSHORE WIND FARM
Iberdrola, through the subsidiary Avangrid Renewables, will take part in the development of a large-scale offshore wind farm off the coast of the state of Massachusetts, United States. Vineyard Wind will have a capacity of 800 megawatts (MW), with which it will be able to meet the energy needs of over 450,000 homes.

Baltic Eagle.

BALTIC EAGLE OFFSHORE WIND FARM
Iberdrola has begun the geotechnical phase for the Baltic Eagle offshore wind farm, which will have an installed capacity of 476 megawatts (MW), representing the start of a strategic project for the company in Germany, in the Baltic Sea.

Onshore wind energy is a renewable, inexhaustible and non-polluting source of energy obtained by transforming the kinetic energy in the wind that blows on land into electricity.

PARAÍBA ONSHORE WIND FARM COMPLEX
Iberdrola, through its Brazilian subsidiary Neoenergia, is going to construct the largest renewable energy project in Latin America: the Paraíba wind farm complex, with a total installed capacity over 565 megawatts (MW).

Hydroelectric power.  HYDROELECTRIC POWER

Hydroelectric energy takes advantage of the force of water when it falls down a slope or waterfall. It is a renewable, emission-free and locally-produced source of generation.

Tamega project.

TÂMEGA PROJECT
Iberdrola is participating in one of the most substantive initiatives in the history of Portugal's energy development: the three power plants of Gouvães, Daivões, and Alto Tâmega will have a total installed capacity of 1,158 MW.

BAIXO IGUAÇÚ HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT
Through its Neoenergia subholding, Iberdrola is building the Baixo Iguaçú hydroelectric power plant in Brazil, which will have an installed capacity of over 350 MW and will supply one million people with renewable energy after it enters into operation on December 2018.

Network Business.

Smart grids.  SMART GRIDS

A smart grid is a technologically advanced energy distribution system that combines three elements: electronic or smart meters, traditional electrical equipments and information and telecommunications systems to receive information remotely.

STAR PROJECT
Iberdrola is a pioneer in the deployment of smart grids through its subsidiary Distribución Eléctrica. In Spain, the company has installed more than 10.8 million smart meters and adapted more than 70,000 transformation centres.

Transmission.  TRANSMISSION OF RENEWABLE ENERGIES

The Iberdrola group is undertaking large-scale projects to transfer 100% renewable energy over hundreds of kilometres. The new lines will be suspended from pylons or subterranean or even submarine.

NEW ENGLAND CLEAN ENERGY CONNECT
Avangrid, through Central Maine Power, will supply 100% hydroelectric energy to 1.2 million homes in the New England region and save customers $190 million a year.

Western Link.

WESTERN LINK
Through its subsidiary ScottishPower and National Grid, the operator of the British electrical system, the company is building an underwater interconnection between Scotland, England, and Wales. It is the longest of its kind in the world, with a high-voltage cable of 850 kilometres length.

Wholesale and retail business.

Combined cycle.  COMBINED CYCLE

Combined cycle power plants convert the thermal energy derived from a fuel into electricity by means of two thermodynamic cycles: that of a gas turbine — usually natural gas — and that of a steam turbine. This technology allows more electricity to be generated with a reduced environmental impact.

Iberdrola Mexico is building four new combined cycle power plants that will have an installed capacity of 3,434 MW, once the last installation, planned for 2020, comes into operation.

WIKINGER OFFSHORE WIND FARM
Located in the Baltic Sea, the farm supplies 350 MW of capacity to the German power grid and provides renewable energy to 350,000 homes, which will displace the emission of nearly 600,000 tons of CO2 per year.
